Theme

Can someone specify which version of the show this refers to? It should be mentioned in the section for that version, not the intro of the article. (I'm assuming because of supertrain that it's the NBC version, unless USA used the same theme and it's both of them. But if someone can clarify, I've removed it from the article for now, since it's definately not referring to the current version. TheHYPO 18:50, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Bonus Rules?

"or if they build a clue that isn't a valid English question" I haven't seen every episode yet, but I've seen people try to keep going after one perosn doesn't continue the sentence they hope but they continue, however, most of the time I've seen this, one of them just has a brain freeze by not going in question form and passes - I haven't seen someone buzzed out for not using sentances or heard that as a rule from the host - has it occured in recent episodes? It would explain things like them always using questions, but I haven't seen a buzzer for that rule yet. TheHYPO 03:53, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I've seen that come up. There was one unfortunate guys' team on a broadcast a few days ago that clearly hadn't practiced the bonus round at all. They started their first two clues with something along the lines of "This... (noun)... is..." and immediately got cuckoo'ed. It might be better to say "a reasonably valid English question", though, since I've also seen the judges let a couple of clues go that were in the form of a question but had a extra word or two thrown in at the end that didn't make grammatical English sense. Kickaha Ota 09:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Maximum dollar amount?

Am I calculating incorrectly? I get $18,300 as the maximum possible winnings.

1st round: 5 x $100 = $500

Bonus: $100

2nd round: 5 x $200 = $1000

Bonus: $200

3rd round: 5 x $300 = $1500

Bonus: $300

Betting round: 5 x $500 = $2500

This totals $6100 and tripling this is $18,300.

Yes, you are wrong. That's why there was an explaination that someone thought was unnecessary and deleted it.

If the opponents have $0, they theoretically have no money to play the betting round. In addition, the trailing team goes first in that round. As such, the Team A must lose 200 dollars at some point in the first two rounds to team B. the score is then 3400-200.

At this point, B starts the betting round, bets 100, loses. If Team A had only 100 to bet, they'd go broke and the game would end immediately. the score is then 3400-100. and then team A can get all 2500 in bets. That would be 5900. Trippling this $17700. TheHYPO 04:58, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: season 2 - Just as in season 1, Unless they have changed the rule about the team who's behind at the time starting the final round, team B needs to win $200 bucks somewhere in the first rounds in order for them to bet $100 to start the last round, lose it, and still have $100 and not end the game right there. I agree that it's too much of a technicality. But I have strong reservations about articles refering to their talk pages. (The arugment goes that anything worthy of attention from the article should be in the article itself.) If the point is a technicality, perhaps it is best that it be deleted then. It needn't refer to the talk page in except for in a hidden HTML note for anyone that seeks to change it. An encyclopedia doesn't need to explain it's calculations as long as they are apt. If someone reads the encyclopedia, they can rest assured that the values have been calculated correctly, and needn't necessarily explain how. If you want to delete both max values, I don't really care. Since noone can or will ever win that much money, or even come close to it (what idiot would risk $500 on the first guess of 5 straight clues, and actually get them?), it could be argued as a moot value... but so too is the Max winnings on Jeopardy, which is an often quoted fact for that show, which assumes that the daily doubles are all in the lowest value clues and are all found last, by the same player who gets every other question right... also quite impossible. Bonus record

In discussion of keeping the bonus record:

1. The MAINLY trivial data which wasn't put back in included the words they guessed - trivial.
2. I don't see your argument of how it benefits teams attempting to be contestants. A team who wants to win the bonus round must beat the clock of 60 seconds... not beat anyone else's record. This isn't Pyramid where the record time gets into a tournament or anything.
3. I don't believe the career highlights of past hosts are any more relevant in this article than the bonus record trivia. career details of hosts are for their own page unless it's relevant to their hosting of this show.
