Developing new powers

[edit]

There is a section that reads essentially, "Superman being able to 'fly' to the year 70 million B.C." and refers to it as 'developing a new power'. This sequence occurs in the episode "The Time Trap". However, there is a sizable problem with this statement. It is incorrect. It is made quite clear by Superman's dialogue AND the narrator's exposition AND the effect that appears in the background that Superman was breaking the time barrier. Further, since Challenge of the Super Friends takes place in the pre-Crisis continuity (even though it is NOT considered canon), Superman DID INDEED have this ability -- and, if fact, first discovered it when he was SuperBOY. Because simply editing that section to take out this inaccuracy would be problematic -- I feel that the original author should decide how to handle this inaccuracy. If that segment is important there are other, more glaring examples that could be used -- such as The Flash suddenly developing the ability to fly -- he's shown 'taking off' from the Hall of Justice on at least two occasions. Or to stay with the time-traveling example, having Black Vulcan or more bizarre Batman's BATPLANE suddenly being able to travel through time. Black Vulcan, I might be able to buy -- but THE BATPLANE?Midknightryder13 22:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Both Ken Begg (on his Jabootu's Nuggets page) and Roger M. Wilcox in their reviews of some Challenge of the Superfriends pointed out the problems all the episodes they reviewed had. On more reliable reference ground the "Saturday, Sleeping Bags & Super Friends: A Retrospective" extras on on the DVD James Tucker points out via example of getting Flash's powers wrong (having him flying) that they went for a more fantasy tone than keeping with the books. Near the end of the video the people all talk about the goofs.
As far as worrying about certain links it clear that like Brave and the Bold Challenge took place on an alternate Earth-1; a sort of Earth-B2 or something that in many respects was like Earth-1 but also had differences.--BruceGrubb (talk) 13:46, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
