Eurosport[edit]

To my best knowledge, Eurosport doesn't broadcast CHL action across Europe. The German Eurosport was the CHL's broadcaster in Germany only. Also, the text implies that each national league that has a team qualified for the CHL negociates with the broadcasters of its country to have its member teams' CHL games covered. It doesn't work like that. The IIHF, through an agency, sells the rights. My reverted edit[edit]

User: Bsroiaadn, the reference doesn't say a thing about the Stanley Cup winner not competing for the Victoria Cup. It simply says the Victoria Cup is "not intended to compete with the Stanley Cup", which is something completely different. I should have phrased my original edit summary better. 14th paragraph, 2nd sentence, "We are hoping that in two or three years as this proves successful, we will change the agreement with the NHL to have the Stanley Cup winner come over,". The way I understand that is that from then on the Stanley Cup winner would be competing for the Victoria Cup regularly, as opposed to at all. Elrith 02:45, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It may be competed for by the defending Stanley Cup champion in a couple year if it proves to be successful. Meaning that, at least during the first season, it will not be competed for by the Stanley Cup champions. If you would like, we could ask WP:HOCKEY about this to get more opinions. "Continent"[edit]

Kazakhstan is Asian along with several KHL teams. Why was "Asia" deleted from the infobox?--Lvivske (talk) 18:12, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, that was a bit unfriendly of me to just remove it without giving a reason, I was in a hurry. My reasoning is that the CHL is defined as a competition for the best club teams in Europe. Kazakhstan is according to Wikipedia "a Eurasian country in Central Asia and Eastern Europe." If we add Asia to the continent section, it would in my opinion imply, that the CHL is also open for teams from any Asian country. Wild8oar (talk) 19:11, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's the Flag of Europe, not exclusive to the EU; also encomposes the CoE, of which the Swiss are a member state. Doesn't include Kazakhstan or Belarus though....still, don't think it makes any presumptions--Lvivske (talk) 22:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, the IIHF exclusively talks about Europe, see here [1]. I would compare it to the UEFA Champions League, where also Europe is listed as continent, but also teams from Kazakhstan or Israel participate. Wild8oar (talk) 19:17, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template usage[edit]

Is it a good idea to use the Infobox football tournament template if this has nothing to do with football? Wouldn't Infobox Sports league template or some other template be more appropriate? IJK_Principle (talk) 18:11, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's football tournament style, rather than just a general sports league, so IMO the former works best for the purposes of the CHL--Lvivske (talk) 22:39, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganisation[edit]

After the definite scratching of the CHL, I think this page (and the individual seasons) should be re-organized. As a clean-up for this page, I propose the following structure:

  • Introduction
  • Summary of first and only season, including some notes about its positive reception and the link to 2009-09 season article.
  • Cancelation (more or less the current paragraph).
  • Victoria Cup, including link to main article.
  • Refs etc.

Furthermore, I think the 2009-10 and 2010-11 season articles can be removed, as they really don't contain any relevant information anymore. What do you think? If nobody disagrees, I will start carrying this out over the next few days. 12:04, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
