I don't get it
[edit]The concept of 3rd person objectivity is that by writing about 3rd person experiences you write about something that someone else can verify, especially if you test many subject therefore accounting for personal variations in subjective perception. If you were to write about your own experiences you can pretty much say anything and no one can falsify or test it.
For example compare:
"Every time i see red color i hear static noise"
"Every time a subject sees red color he hears static noise"
Now if I base some theories on the first statement no one will ever be able to test it, however if I base it on second statement others can relate to it, by testing some subjects.
But the real claim to objectivity lies not in 1st or 3rd person of narrative but in number of cases tested and attempts to minimize observer biases.
What I think the author of this thought experiment implies is that experimenter thinks his subject's experience is more objective than his own would be. This seems a bit silly. The real idea of the experimenter is that he can test many subjects and find common elements. This is what i would call a "practical objectivity".
Or do i miss the point of this experiment? Kezorm (talk) 15:56, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
