  1. It is reasonably well written.

    ...but ultimately agreed to provide about $100,000 of the $160,000 budget for Pierce's first film. Prior to directing his first film,... Can we rephrase this? Two instances of "first film" in close proximity is rather clunky.

    Try to vary the phrasing a little. There are many instances where the repetitive pattern of sentences starting with the word "Pierce" or "he" jar somewhat. Read the article out aloud, and give it a thorough copy-edit to improve the flow.
    He had previously refused to participate in an earlier sequel, Return to Boggy Creek (1977), which was filmed by director Tom Moore. Pierce did not participate in the production and did not like the final film. Repetitious
    Like the earlier sequel, Pierce did not like his own finished film and considered it his worst directorial effort. Very poor grammar.
    Also that year, the festival's best film award in his honor to the Charles B. Pierce Award for Best Film Made in Arkansas As it stands this is meaningless.

    Judges Special Recognition Award, surely should be Judges' Special Recognition Award?
    Pierce's first wife was Cindy Butler, who appeared in a role in his film The Town That Dread Sundown. Although they divorced, Pierce said they remained friends after they parted. He remarried Beth Pulley Pierce, who he met while filming Hawken's Breed. "He remarried Beth Pulley Pierce" implies that these two had been married (and presumably) divorced previously. I also note that "Beth Pulley Pierce" was not her name when they married?

    Overall the prose could do with a thorough copy-edit as noted above. It seems rather slapdash and carelessly put together at present.

    I don't think that the Selected filmography should include his set decorating credits, which are not particularly notable.
    • Are you recommending simply removing all of the set decorating credits altogether? I'll do this if you feel strongly about it, but I guess I'd rather not. His work as a set decorator is discussed at various points in the article, and it seems odd to me to leave it out of the filmography altogether. Perhaps, as a suggestion, we should keep in the films in which the article specifically mentions (cited by reliable sources) his work as a set decorator (like Coffy, Hondo, Black Belt Jones, etc.) and remove the ones where they are not cited in the article? (like The Phantom Tollbooth, The Strawberry Statement, An Eye for an Eye, etc.) Let me know what you think. — Hunter Kahn 22:14, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Charles' first wife was actually Florene (Flo) Pierce and they had 3 children together, Pam, Chuck and Amy. After they divorced, is when he married Cindy Butler. Flo was in a couple of his movies. She passed away Sept. 30, 2010 in Texarkana, AR. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.20.3.49 (talk) 17:54, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

COI edits[edit]

Please review new edits and remove Notice of Conflict box. I have made factual, easily verifiable edits. Also, Charles B. Pierce set design credits such as 'Phantom Tollbooth' are incorrect and should be removed. There is question to a third wife, and her legal name. Florene "Flo" Pierce was in "The Legend of Boggy Creek", "Bootlegger's", and "The Winds of Autumn. Charles B. Pierce suffered Alzheimer's Disease and died on March 5, 2010 in a nursing home, in Erin, TN, isolated from family and friends.   • I've also reviewed the edits. Sourced references to Pierce's ex-wife, Beth Pulley, were deleted from the article, so I've restored them. I also added citations with reliable sources to a recently-added (and previously unsourced) sentence about Pierce's granddaughter being a noted photographer. Otherwise, the edits look fine, and since another impartial editor has reviewed them in addition to myself, I will remove the Notice of Conflict box from the article. — Hunter Kahn 03:37, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

The lead of this article is too long and includes too many specific details which are not necessary here and are covered later in the article. The body of the article is around the 15,000 character mark, which means according to WP:LEADLENGTH the lead should be 1-2 paragraphs, not the current 4. For example, the second paragraph opens with details of his birthplace and childhood move of towns,and early jobs, details which should not be in the lead but are correctly covered later under "early life." I suggest the 2nd, 3rd and 4th paragraphs could all be cut down to one paragraph which gives an overview of his career. As per WP:LEADELEMENTS the lead should "establish significance" and "be written in a way that makes readers want to know more" rather than give so many details which are then just repeated in the body.   • If we're going by a strict interpretation of WP:LEADLENGTH, the lead should actually be 2 or 3 paragraphics because the article is above the 17,000 character mark. I don't entirely agree with your assessment of the lead because I think most of the details were important ones, not trivial.
