Made likely by an entry "1917 Jones, Charles Ernest, B.A., B.Sc. (Lond.), C.C.S., Education Office, Colombo" in a list of members of the Asiatic Society at https://www.jstor.org/stable/43474070. Charles Matthews (talk) 06:53, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Background[edit]

He married in 1923 Hilda Yorath, youngest daughter of the late George Yorath of Ross-on-Wye (Portsmouth Evening News, 10 November 1923). That report is not completely legible to me, but his father is possibly K. C. Jones; address Drayton, Hants. Charles and Hilda had one son (Kelly's Directory 1961 page 1132). Looks like Arnold Nelson Jones was Canadian, connected with Olds, Alberta. So I believe Charles Ernest Jones in The Peerage is more likely someone else (it is a common enough name). Charles Matthews (talk) 08:25, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Later career[edit]

The acting Finance Secretary positions are given in [4] p. 186. I believe Jayewardene was Finance Minister from the beginning of dominion status for Ceylon.
