An editor has suggested adding this: "Colin McAlpin won £250 for his The Cross and the Crescent performed at Covent Garden in 1903. [citing an unknown page from Hubbard and Krehbiel]." This detail does not belong in this article. It does belong, of course, in McAlpin's article. This is misleading here, as it gives more importance to only one of the winners. Even if we could list all of the winners, the information is trivial. The key fact for this article is that prizes were given. Further, McAlpin is a barely notable person. Mentioning his name here does nothing to further indicate the importance of this prize. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:50, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The above emboldens me to agree. I attempted to mitigate the addition by asking for proper refs, but in truth I agree that the addition doesn't add much of relevance to the present article, though no doubt it is germane to McAlpin's article. Tim riley (talk) 18:41, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your reasoning accepted, with some reservations, because I had thought it would be relevant, adding interest, to include an example of a prize-winner. Thanks for reminding me - I have added the page no. to the citation where the Prize is mentioned in Colin McAlpin P0mbal (talk) 10:05, 9 May 2012 (UTC) This note isn't about Manners, but as an aside I dont accept the description "barely notable" to McAlpin - its just like many other artists and musicians he is largely out of public memory now.
