Devolved from User talk:Neddyseagoon.

Hi, Can I ask for some help? I've created a page about Charterhouse, Somerset largely based around the roman mines & fort on the site, but I'm sure I've got loads of it wrong as I have very little knowledge of the area. The trigger for doing this was finding the document Mendip Hills An Archaeological Survey of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which has also prompted me to add info on prehistoric & roman settlements (& forts etc) to lots of the sites in the Mendip Hills (which are listed on the template at the bottom of the pages) or see today's entries on my contributions [[1]]. If there is anyone else who might be able to help me get this lot right could you let me know their usernames so that I can ask for help as I feel out of my depth with this lot. Thanks in advance.— Rod talk 19:06, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any current archaeology magazines should have it. Other than that, I can't think of anything else as yet, but I'm working on it. User|Neddyseagoon 10:52, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You did a great job on the Roman stuff. There's not really that much known about the place. I've moved most of the info to Charterhouse Roman Town with only a little expansion. Walgamanus 22:58, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Packhorse bridge in Charterhouse[edit]

There is a Packhorse Bridge in Charterhouse, as shown at Packhorse bridge. A name of the bridge and/or the stream it crosses would be appreciated by myself and by User talk:Dave.Dunford, who has done most of the work on that article. --DThomsen8 (talk) 18:15, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The NHLE record (which I would use rather than the commercial (& not always updated) British Listed Buildings) is based on the entry in the Somerset Historic Environment Record. But none give a name of the bridge or stream and my high scale local OS map doesn't give a name either. From the photo on the SHER record & the geograph image used on the list of Packhorse bridges I would suggest there is no permanent stream and is probably only wet/muddy after heavy rain. This is common on the Mendips where streams appear and disappear down sinkholes in an apparently random pattern (there is a swallet a few meters south of the bridge). I can nip up & take a look (& maybe chat to the farmer) sometime, as it is only about 10 mins from home.— Rod talk 18:37, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
