Photo

I know it is hard to see, but the dialogue displayed in the photo shows the word "fuck". It may be realistic, but I think that a cleaner photo would be more appropriate for the professional tone Wikipedia tries to achieve.

I think that's a fair point and by all means replace the photo. Coolug (talk) 18:13, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I agree this shouldn't be included and have removed it when it reappeared. Samuelsidler (talk) 19:51, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

nudity

While I don't dispute the fact that there's nudity, I think the word "substantial" is unfounded. 89.128.177.223 (talk) 19:18, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

I'd agree, with the caveat that at certain times, it is substantial. In early morning hours (2am - 4am) in the US, it is substantial. But normally it's not. I agree with the removal anyway. Samuelsidler (talk) 19:22, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

deleted that whole page on chatroulette jack. That is not notable at all, the section on him is longer than the chatroulette article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.11.242.125 (talk) 17:21, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Chatroulette.com is full of wankers, literally. Ugly male ones. With tiny penises. Shouldn't the article mention this? :)90.30.150.90 (talk) 02:07, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

It is full of wankers indeed, but putting that in the article would be original research unless you find a decent source. Lots of articles are being written in the media about chatroulette and I'm sure one of them will mention all the cocks. Coolug (talk) 11:50, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
here's a source you could use - http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/mar/06/zoe-williams-chatroulette Coolug (talk) 09:00, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Here's another one, showing the statistics in detail - http://techcrunch.com/2010/03/16/chatroulette-stats-male-perverts/ . Of a sample of 10,770 photos, 13% were nude or lewd in some fashion. It's pretty poor that the article omits this, and in fact only mentions that there are administrative measures against this. (I'd edit it myself, but the edit tab doesn't seem to be working.) --118.210.80.3 (talk) 13:42, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

The amount of sausage on the site seems to have drastically declined since I last looked? Have they had a crackdown? How've they done it? Are bans still only 5-40 minutes?

Culture

I've added a selection of celebrity sightings back in with two references, describing which celebrities are verified (usually by a twitter post from the celebrity's account - see the ref articles) and which celebrities are unverified. Mentioned the "nexted" slang, see the Guardian reference along side it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EliotSykes (talkcontribs) 10:17, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Minor edit

There's a minor mistake in the Culture section, "Niche sites ... have been growing in number, although none has yet to gain its popularity and notoriety." Should either read "one has yet to gain" or (better) "none have yet gained". The whole sentence could benefit from being rewritten. -AmanAhuja (talk) 22:34, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Edit

It should be noted here that only one of the "Niche sites" : Youlette.com has yet to show any promise as to being a replacement or better alternative to chatroulette. http://youlette.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by Srmmedia (talkcontribs) 11:45, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Time for separate article for Andrey Ternovskiy?

He got profiled in the New Yorker.--Sodabottle (talk) 15:37, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

I would keep it in this article until and unless Andrey does something separate that is also notable, as was done for Alex Tew. Keep the redirect pointed here, though.--Milowent (talk) 15:43, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
Ok. I added the New yorker article to external links. It has some good information on the evolution of the site.--Sodabottle (talk) 15:50, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Is Chatroulette still owned and run by Andrey Ternovskiy? The terms and conditions say it's provided by Chatroulette, Inc. of California.

Edit request from 67.250.31.206, 10 June 2010

{{editsemiprotected}} I think I have a valuable addition to your page. In the section "SEE ALSO" http://chatrouletteimages.com would be a nice link to add. Many people do not want to actively participate in the chatroulette, but would love to see what it's about. This site satisfies the curiosity and does not show pornographic images.

Thank you.

67.250.31.206 (talk) 05:50, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Not done sorry, per WP:ELNO that site doesn't really qualify. CTJF83 pride 06:39, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Chatroulette porno site must be removed from wiki

People! Wake up!!! This is a pornographic site! 90% of video streams show their ... . In the remaining 10% there are very often teens that are watching it! Or maybe I am the only one who do not agree and for the rest of people all of this is normal? And for children's, too?
—Preceding unsigned comment added by Antichatroulette (talkcontribs) 16:42, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for removing the WP:SPAM link from your comment whilst restoring it. I'm afraid the answer to your point, though, is likely to be the one that was given on your talk page by Tommy2010: Wikipedia is not censored. The article doesn't exist to promote the site, and, indeed, is policed stringently to ensure that does not occur. However, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and, as such, aims to contain articles about NOTABLE websites. - Begoon (talk) 06:16, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Rules

Up until 01 Oct 2010 there was one rule along the lines of One Rule: No indecent pictures. From 01 Oct 2010 this changed to Two rules: 16+, stay fully clothed Later in the evening it changed again to: Rules: 16+ Stay fully clothed Don't swear in chat 80.229.141.46 (talk) 18:46, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

It said "One rule: obscene content is prohibited" today earlier, now "Rules: 16+ Stay fully clothed Don't swear in chat" in 4 lines.

According to rules eg. yesterday, record player spinning a vinyl was OK, but people reported in my opinion everything else than obscene content. Now seems like people are hitting Report-button all the time (tried 5 times with my face on webcam, got 3 pics and then "Paused"). WTF is wrong with people today?!? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.222.55.42 (talk) 19:49, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Logan's Run

Hey - Isn't this whole idea lifted from "Logan's Run" - the movie (at least, maybe the book too) has a technology that pairs random strangers in a video chat. Someone ought to at least mention that somewhere. 24.68.250.110 (talk) 22:40, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

see WP:OR and WP:V. Btw, it wasn't a pairing for video chat, it was a physical pairing for sex. Dlabtot (talk) 23:26, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Jan Blair

Resolved

"In response, the website has encouraged users to be named Jan Blair, and prohibits pornographic behavior." Is that a browser problem, a editing problem, or my problem? Jan Blair.. I don't get it.. and a Google search of Jan Blair shows nothing that's relevant. Needs to be edited if incorrect and if correct.. needs explanation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.228.112.21 (talk) 23:15, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

It was vandalism. I've fixed it. - SummerPhD (talk) 23:33, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

By whose standards?

In the last paragraph it states that 30% of the site's users are minors. The statement is not referenced (added needing referece tag) and it also does not say by whose standards they are supposed to be minors. The age of sexual consent as well as legislation regarding decency and pornographic content varies wildly around the world so this statement is meaningless (added a clarification needed tag). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.62.128.141 (talk) 16:03, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

Proposed additions to "Reactions to criticisms" section

Cblauc1 proposed the addition of this text to the end of the "Reactions to criticisms" section:

Hito Steryl in her book titled Duty Free Art: Art in the Age of Planetary Civil War, Explains Chatroulette as the first major flag of concern for inappropriate content on the internet. In turn this provided a need for facial recognition oriented software to be created by GCHQ. The nudity problem lead to advancement in censorship for platforms that could potentially erupt the same kind of sexually inappropriate web results. However the results of the software couldn’t tell the difference by pixels and left it up to the user to decide for themselves. Chatroulette's voyeurism created the latter need for porn detection of realtime videos.
“The system was not perfect at stopping those images reaching the eyes of GCHQ staff, though. An internal guide cautioned prospective Optic Nerve users that "there is no perfect ability to censor material which may be offensive. Users who may feel uncomfortable about such material are advised not to open them”.”

Deerhunter

The Russian Roulette players in Deerhunter are not prisoners of war forced by captors to play. The players are desperate people who are in an underground club. They get money for playing if they manage to survive. Corsican gangsters are taking bets from gamblers on whether the players shoot themselves.RichardBond (talk) 16:58, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
