Being There[edit]

This statement in the article:

Beadle's name was possibly the inspiration for the name of the character Chauncey Gardiner in the movie Being There, filmed largely at Biltmore Estate.

is based on a source I read in the past, but I've not been able to find it again. (I believe this was in some literature or a display at Biltmore Estate.) It is such an interesting tidbit connecting Beadle to popular culture that I did not want to leave it out, hoping that somebody else could pin down the reference. Comments and more information welcome. (updated) --Cotinis 15:29, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the comment and the associated link. The burden of proof is on the editor who adds the comment, so if you put it back in then please give a reputable reference. It's a good-sounding connection to a movie, but it needs verification. - Astrochemist (talk) 20:51, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's very likely a coincidence, because the novel came first, with no foresight that the Biltmore Estate would be used to portray the estate in the film, and the Wikipedia article about the novel even notes the following: "It has been suggested that Kosinski modeled the character of Chance after a former greenhouse manager named Jerry Jarvis who became the national leader of the transcendental meditation movement during the late 1960s and early 1970s, whom Kosinski had met at the local TM Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and who embodied the calm and simple manner of Chauncey Gardiner. The Cambridge TM Center was for years located at the corner of Chauncy and Garden Streets." mmortal03 (talk) 06:39, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Beadle's place of death[edit]

Presumably, Beadle died in Asheville, North Carolina, but I've been unable to verify this. I'll try to find out more information on a future visit. If anyone has any information, please add it.--Cotinis 16:24, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of Beadle[edit]

I saw the suggestion that a photo of Beadle be added. Finding a freely-licensed one is going to be tough, I believe, as for many 20th century figures. I did a Google image search and found a reproduction of a photo here, but the original source is not named. I will inquire of the owners site, I suppose. If anyone knows of any other sources, let me know.--Cotinis (talk) 13:56, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
