  • 1900 Census records show a George W. Willis, occupation newspaper publisher, living in Brooklyn. Listed as Born in New York (parents also born NY) in July 1854, married for two years. Spouse Marie C., a much younger 24 years of age (born Sept 1875). born NY, parents born England. No children. Also living with them is mother-in-law Hannah Tousey.
  • 1910 census shows George and Marie (still with Mother in law) at 191 Claremont Ave in Manhattan. Occupation newspaper publisher.
  • 1920 census shows George and Marie still living in Manhattan (just the 2 of them), at 610 Riverside Drive. Occupation magazine publisher.
  • 1925 New York State Census has George (age 71) (occupation publishing) and Marie (age 49), at Hamilton Hotel in Manhattan (30 Hamilton Place).
  • Mahin's Magazine [1] for December 1903 claims the "present owner" (no mention of Willis by name) of Cheerful Moments bought it a "few years ago" "when it had a circulation of 40,000 a copies a month, which has since been built up to over half a million copies an issue"
