Merge from Naeem Ul Hassan

[edit]

This councillor's article asserts no notability other than representing Cheetham. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abid Chohan. JASpencer 17:55, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Added Martin Pagel for same reason. JASpencer 18:31, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheetham, or Cheetham Hill?

[edit]

It is unclear from reading this article why this page and the Cheetham Hill page are different. They seem to refer to exactly the same place, and the accepted name seems to be Cheetham Hill. Should these two pages be merged? Or am I missing something? YojimboSan (talk) 08:55, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

I have proposed merging Cheetham Hill into the Cheetham article. The name of the area is Cheetham and the councillors represent the "Cheetham Ward" not the "Cheetham Hill ward"

I think the articles should most definately be merged, however, the Ordnance Survey only records "Cheetham Hill" as a locality, not "Cheetham". To me, "Cheetham Hill" should also take the title per WP:COMMONNAME, so I'm suggesting we go for that. I'd tackle it in the lead a little bit like Greenacres, or Shaw and Crompton, with both names mentioned and both enboldened. --Jza84 |  Talk  15:35, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree - they should be merged, but it should be under Cheetham, as Cheetham Hill refers to a small area of the former township of Cheetham, i.e. the shopping area to the north, whereas Cheetham stretches almost into Manchester. I would imagine that Cheetham Hill Road, which runs right through Cheetham, is so named because it's the road that leads to Cheetham Hill from Manchester.
