Who is adding these random birth dates to South Park articles?[edit]

Even given that the show uses a sliding timescale so that a specific date given in one season won't be valid 20 years later, these years don't seem to be based on anything. In the very *first* Chef-centric episode there is a flashback showing him as an adult who is already both a professional musician and a chef in 1969, so he obviously wasn't born in 1960 at any point in the show's universe. In any case there doesn't seem to be anything in the show or its spinoff materials that these dates are based on, and they appear to just be made up by an account who does nothing but add "birth dates" to articles for South Park characters.

Some of the days and dates look to correspond to a calendar product that was produced for the show or to glimpses of Facebook pages in various episodes, which might work if they are cited, but the years don't make any sense. Predestiprestidigitation (talk) 06:17, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Formerly, this article stated that chef's parents lived in a castle in Scotland. The original author may have been confused by the shot of Edinburgh, including the famous castle, that preceded the scene in Chef's parents house.eiscir 01:16, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chef got what he had coming to him[edit]

Damn, they spared Chef no dignity in the season premire. Ate him ALIVE! The entire thing was nothing but a well-deserved jab at Scientology. I hope that serves as a "Screw you" to Issac Hayes for his bigotry. Serves him right. Ghostalker 03:32, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Can we please get information in this article about the last episode Chef was in before the season 10 premiere? I'm confused about where he was coming back from exactly...? 65.93.160.112 20:59, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its not a continuation of any previous episode. The whole "Previously on South Park..." was a gag. Nothing led up to this episode.--CyberGhostface 22:05, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That Disgusted Me[edit]

Seriously, the whole scientology jab was hilarious, brilliant, subtle yet obvious, and rang true. But seriously, Chef got mauled. I was disgusted, and shocked. Chef was one of my favorite characters, and then they turned him into that. I agree that Isaac Hayes was bigoted, but as Kyle said there at the end, "Let's not blame Chef. Let's blame that fruity little club." I'm not mad at Hayes, though I am disappointed with him, but the most touching thing to me was when Stan said, "Chef... we love you." I'm thinking Isaac Hayes really ought to come back to South Park. And for everyone who will say,"Well, how can he, they made Chef a Sith Lord molester guy, and he essentially died," seriously, think about it. Kenny dies all the time, but that is hardly permanent. They could disregard that ever happened, fix it somehow, like have Chef just miraculously heal or have it been an imposter or something, or just let Chef be Darth Chef but come back all good, and say, "Hello there children!" in Darth Vader's voice. The only thing that sucks is that Chef probably will stay like that, and Hayes will have been so offended that he will not likely return. I think, all in all, the episode was a clever satire, but a low blow. And it nearly burned any bridge Isaac may have.

  • Yeah, but after stormed out from the show it was doubtful if he'd ever come back, especialy after the words he had with the shows producers. He's still going to live like a king off the royalties from his record sales AND South Park. Maybe he was going to retire all long and this was the most memorable way to go... making a scene. In all honesty though, since Comedy Central owns the rights to Chef, they could bring him back with either a different actor, or just using previously taped material and digitally throwing it together (similar to what they did in the last episode, but with higher quality). Ghostalker
  • I don't know about disgusted, but I felt the same inexplicable emotion when I saw on the news that Phil Hartman was murdered. While that was tragic in and of itself, it also meant The Simpsons was never, ever going to be the same -- Springfield, too, was a changed universe. Sure, Hartman's characters were all minor, but they still rang essential to that series' brand of humor (which it no longer possesses, imo), and it was never the same without him. Then again, South Park did fine without Kenny for a season or two, and I think Matt and Trey have done a better job at making -change- an expected thing in South Park, which makes it easier for them to try new things without jumping sharks. By the time Mr. Garrison got his balls snipped last season, I was already thinking, "oh well, this was going to happen sooner or later". --71.133.137.220 23:32, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Scientology wouldn't have led him return to Southpark. They had a tough grip on him, like they do on everybody engaging with this both ridiculous and horrible cult. R.I.P. Mr. Hayes — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.113.98.90 (talk) 22:39, 31 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, they got Darth Maul to do his voice, so they could just go ahead and use Darth Chef all they want. I'm seeing a Episode VI parody in the future, where Chef kills the leader of the Super Adventure Club and turns good right before he dies for good.

Darth Chef[edit]

Can we please get a pic of Darth Chef?

No need to make a seperate article about Darth Chef[edit]

Someone should redirect/merge Darth Chef article into here. In fact, I think Darth Chef article is just has all the redundant info from here and probably will not need to merge just redirect. --Don Vito Corleone 20:29, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I had updated the article, as it had previously contained only one sentence about the developing character. The information provided in the article is already on the Chef article, so this could be resolved by simply deleting the page. I do not have permission to do so. -Dan

Nah, it is okay just to redirect back to here. Someone with limited knowlege how Wikipedia is operated will re-create this article again. --Don Vito Corleone 21:54, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Issac Hayes' Departure[edit]

There's apparently a lot of misinformation about Issac Hayes' departure from South Park. According to the New York Post, he actually had a stroke and left the show. He was in such a bad condition that a friend and fellow Scientologist made the press announcement for him. According to this story, Trey Parker and Matt Stone completely blew the whole thing out of proportion.

Anyone have a copy of this article so we can be NPOV? -- 216.135.67.209 01:36, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From [1]:
Adding another wrinkle to the situation, on Monday FoxNews.com reported that Hayes had no intention of quitting "South Park," but someone had quit in his name. The report, which cited various "sources," claimed that Hayes was unable to quit the show because he was recovering from a stroke he had suffered on January 17, and stated that "it's ... ridiculous to think Hayes ... would suddenly turn against the show because they were poking fun at Scientology."
Amy Harnell, a spokesperson for Hayes, told MTV News the Fox News report was "definitely not true" and that Hayes' decision to quit was "his and his alone." She added that Hayes was never hospitalized with a stroke, but rather "spent a few days in a hospital because of a high blood-pressure condition with medical complications."
It appears the stroke was a fabrication of some sort. Cburnett 01:50, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A quick Google search on Amy Harnell hints that she's a servant of Scientology. Call me bigoted, but I do not trust what she says. BryanM 14:10, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Except the anon's position is he had a stroke and even Harnell's position is that he didn't. Regardless, something more than a "I read it in an article but don't have a copy it" will be needed. Cburnett 15:18, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This may be asinine, but I spent some time poking around and might as well share if anyone cares: Here's the link to the Fox News Story, since we don't have it here yet. He reiterated his belief on Wednesday. Internewt spelunking turns up nothing conclusive: A search for "Roger Friedman is an idiot" gives surprisingly few results, only about ten. A few other small news outlets reported on him having a stroke, though I could not find anything on it at CNN (although some poster on a forum claims to have seen it there the day it happened; may have been removed as a false report?). Isaac's official website hasn't mentioned anything on the matter, he's still listed as being a part of South Park. It's apparant that the quitting was done through a written press release, and it is known that he's now being represented by scientologists. This entire thing just doesn't add up; the worst rumor I saw is that they hurt the man themselves, which is something they're not above doing if they viewed him as siding with their enemies: "Never fear to hurt another in a just cause," and all that. Publicity stunt, conspiracy/betrayal, or truth? It's pretty insane, and it'd be nice for him to give a statement with his own voice and face on the matter. So that my head doesn't explode from all these wookie-esque hijinks... BryanM 18:43, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Even so, if Hayes is incapacitated, and Scientology used the opportunity to step in and denounce South Park, it seems to me they more than deserved the mauling they got in the new episode. ProhibitOnions 19:38, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dead Chef Pic[edit]

Please remove it...some of us South Park fans (like myself) have very weak stomachs, and Chef was beloved. Do we really want to relive that moment? I sure don't. - PPG

Isaac Hayes was the first choice for Chef[edit]

On the CD commentary for episode one, Trey Parker says "...and we had already thought of a lot of the characters and so Chef was one of them, and we told them that Isaac Hayes was our first choice, just thinking it was sort of a pie-in-the-sky kind of thing, and then we got a call that we were going to do the pilot, and Comedy Central said that Isaac Hayes was totally into it, totally excited to do it, but we had to fly out to New York to record his voice...." Am I correct in assuming we should go with the primary source on this one? I'm going to take the thing about Barry White being the first choice out.

Chef's Name[edit]

I could be mistaken, but I believe that, in at least one episode of the show, Chef's name is spelled "MacElroy".

I just watched the Epidose The Biggest Douche in the Universe online [2], and at position 20:03, there's a label on a pot roast that reads "Chef McGilroy, South Park". --Mnolf (talk) 18:33, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chef Trivia[edit]

So I attempted to source and update the trivia info saying that Chef is based on a dining hall chef here at CU Boulder. Sources are slim, and the one I posted is kinda flimsy at best, but it was the best I could find. That trivia bit is just common knowledge among the students, passed down from older students to freshman every year. And Willie is a big heavy-set african-american chef who has worked in the dining halls for a while...so it could very well be very true, but it's kind of urban legend-ish. Dead[edit]

He's not.Did you see the end of the episode? He gets revived into Darth Chef.--CyberGhostface 19:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh in Return Of Chef well I guess your right I guess only his main charecter is dead since the Super Adventure Club brainwashed him.Themasterofwiki 12:15, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We need to remove the part that says because he's dead there will never be a return of chef, they've already had an episode clipped together with his voice, and South Park has used different voice actors for different characters before. Let's stay away from being presumptuous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.56.168.52 (talk) 19:23, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sideview[edit]

  • A side-view drawing of Chef was not available until season 7. Chef always walked sideways, facing the camera, from seasons 1 to 6. A notable instance of this was in "Red Hot Catholic Love".

This is not true, as you can see, in "Cartman gets an anal probe" you can already see a sideview of him, when they come to talk to him. Except if you mean a side view of his head, then it's true. I removed it anyway. JulianFT 21:09, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Partially Deceased?[edit]

You're either deceased or you're not, I don't see an inbetween. I would say he's still alive, although he's in Darth Vader form now. Chenzo23 (talk) 22:21, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Typical introduction"[edit]

It is not necessary to give a "typical introduction" of Chef in his episodes, nor is it necessary to cite how Chef says "children" or how he would use "fudge" as a euphamism for "fuck" in earlier episodes. removed --Seb0910 (talk) 14:27, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Celtic[edit]

I thought that Celtic was an ethinicity, and not just something that a person could be by living in a country. Would a chinese person living in Ireland be Celtic? I could be wrong but I don't think thats right. 24.65.42.159 (talk) 00:01, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice question. It is also the case that USD are the actual currency unit in Scotland. Such is it, even when Chef visited his parents in Scotland. Just shows how strange his parents are. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.89.69.144 (talk) 00:20, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

In this edit I did the following: Expanded the introduction to detail his role within the show and the inspiration for the characters. I rearranged most of the article so that everything would fit into an appropriate sub-article.

Removed a lot of repeated info (it mentioned his becoming Darth Chef in three different places, etc.) Shortened the material about his parents (mentioning every detail of their meetings with the Loch Ness Monster does not give the reader any insight into Chef at all...save that for their own article if you must).

Removed a lot of speculation (unsourced stuff about his body being purified by the mountain lion and so forth), and the statement about him possibly being Celtic because of his last name (blacks with Christian last names in this country were given those names by whites...there's no source to the statement anyway), also removed "fictional Scottish-Americans" category.

Removed other generally speculative statements such as "Chef is unlikely to appear now that Isaac Hayes is gone"; it's probably true, but Chef can still return through more voice clip looping or voiced by another actor, etc., it's still speculative. Removed "a not-so-subtle jab at Scientology"; it's a NPOV statement unless you get a sourced statement from the show's writers, otherwise the reader can read about the episode and decide for themselves.

And...just a lot of general improvement (I hope), adding episode citations and cites for the "Hayes leaves show" section. Also, reworded a section to read that he had the "mindset" of a pedophile, since, although he talked about wanting to do it, we never actually find out if he did physically abuse any children during that episode. As usual, please post thoughts, disagreements, suggestions, constructive criticism, etc. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 21:51, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So, what is Chef's religion?[edit]

I've also posted this on Stan Marsh's talk page because it stems from a discussion I started there; please read.

What should the infobox say is Chef's religion? I know he was depicted once as a Muslim (they article explains why, and that it was temporary). And for the final episode he was in the "Super Adventure Club" (which I would deem as not a religion at all, but my reasoning for it can easily be interpreted as OR, so I won't suggest discarding the idea). We have seen Chef get married in a ceremony presided over by Father Maxi, and his parents have a picture of Jesus on their wall, but as far as I can tell the show has never specifically stated what denomination of Christianity he might be. For now, I've left it vague as such, so please discuss and leave suggestions as to the best way to present this info. - SoSaysChappy (talk) 16:31, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chef's Infobox[edit]

I've noticed that the infobox on Chef is missing some information that was apparently meant to be included (last episode, gender, etc), but it's protected and can only be altered by admins. Could the box be expanded to include the last few lines of info? Thanks! jeff (talk) 14:13, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
