Article restructuring[edit]

Hi, I'm User:Hmanck and I was behind the article revamp for the Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System. As you can tell, it's a big work in progress right now. The reason why I came over here is to the do the same thing for what I did over there: fix it up and make logistical connections when necessary.

What I have done so far:

  • History section has been put together in one section
  • Isolated out several sections such as fares
  • Added "Rolling stock" and "Future"
  • Corrections regarding proper capitalisation conventions and usage as per Wikipedia policy: nouns are not capitalised, except in the beginning of the word. Proper nouns are capitalised. Only the first letter of the first word is capitalised for the titles and headings, except for proper nouns. I will make these changes when necessary.
  • Corridor -> line, that is the usual convention for most rapid transit systems

One thing, avoid abbreviations/acronyms. Unless the subject matter is mentioned first in its full form with abbreviations introduced in brackets, do not used abbreviations. This goes especially for maps and titles. H-Man (talk) 21:56, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.

Remove items in See also section that are already linked inline w/ article.

2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.
  • The citations in the lead should be moved inline with the article, if they are not there. They don't need to be in the lead.
  • No need for citations in the infobox, just make sure they are cited inline with the article.
  • There is a bare url citation; please expand.
  • Fix tagged deadlinks
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).

Uncited

  • Background section needs more citations.
  • Almost a year later, on 21 September 2016, commercial operations commenced between Chennai International Airport metro station and Little Mount.
  • Cite Line 5 in the table in Future Expansion
2c. it contains no original research.
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).

Expand accidents and incidents section, and make it prose style. Maybe doesn't need much expansion, but at least should be written in prose style.

4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content.

For File:Chennai_Metro_Logo.jpg, is it necessary to have both the first and the third copyright notice? They are basically identical. Also, are they correct? It seems to me this image would not fall under those copyright notices.

In the Chennai Metro Phase I template, should Chamiers Road be Nandanam? In general are both of those images up to date? They don't seem to match. For File:Chennai_Rail.png, the source link is broken, so I cannot check the licensing.

6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
7. Overall assessment.

I keep meaning to start on this, so I am going to get the review kicked off and will provide comments over the next couple of days. Kees08 (talk) 06:58, 15 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

General: Number of stations in the infobox says 13 operations and 42 phase I. The intro says Phase I is operational; does that mean it should be 55 operational? Same goes for other Phase I things in infobox.

Officially on hold. There are quite a few changes. Upon completion of those changes, I'll run through it again to make sure we caught everything. Let me know if any of the above is unreasonable. Thanks! Kees08 (talk) 20:11, 26 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kees08, Thanks for taking up the review. Will make the changes in a phased manner. Magentic Manifestations (talk) 06:01, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I would highly recommend having the guild of copy editors go through this article. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, thanks! It is a very good article overall, we just have to shore up the few things noted above. Kees08 (talk) 17:17, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review[edit]

This review is transcluded from Talk:Chennai Metro/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer: 1.02 editor (talk · contribs) 10:29, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i will be taking this review, expect comments soon. 1.02 editor (T/C) 10:29, 20 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments[edit]

Looking through the article at a glance, it has improved since the last GA review. However it is still in relatively bad shape with numerous issues largely pertaining to grammar and sentence structure. Large swathes of the article is monotonous with recurring "On ..... x happened, On ..... y happened" staccato style sentences. Please do try make the sentences flow nicer in the article. There are also some MOS violations such as references in the lead section and inclusion on unneeded trivia. A detailed review may take a while given the state of the article.

Detailed[edit]

Lead[edit]

  • please only cite references in the lead if not in the body.
  • 'after partially opening the first phase of the project' to 'after the first phase of the system partially opened.'
  • do add the number of stations along with the system length and number of lines
  • if possible do add the type of topology the system uses.
  • 'between the Government of India'
  • 'between 4:30 and 23:00' please use proper time notation.
  • 'The system has also planned to takeover' I dont think the system is planning, please state who or which organisation is doing the planning.
  • Third largest metro is duplicated, please remove the second mention.

History[edit]

  • Please clarify where or what 'Beach' is.
  • 'This service is now being continued ' When?
  • certain sentences are unreferenced. If no sources are found please remove them.
  • There is a lot of information on who gets what contract for how much. please only state them if notable. 3 whole paragraphs on that is not acceptable.
  • It is mentioned that the TBMs are to be bought from Russia and China, but later it is mentioned that the TBMs came from germany, China US and Japan. Please clarify.

Network[edit]

  • ' The northern arm is a 9.051 kilometres (5.624 mi)' is there a need for such a large number of decimal places?
  • 'rupees 3770 crores' change to the same style as with the rest of the article.
  • 'The construction activity is expected to be completed by November 2019' Please update.
  • 'the line is planned to be thrown open for commercial operations' What in the world is this!?
  • 'would be for 104 km (65 mi) spreading across 104 stations.' Please reword this with better english.
  • Change 'suo moto' to 'Sua Sponta' and link it (assuming the have the same meaning)

Operations[edit]

  • Please cut down on the trivia in the ticketing section as per WP:NOTGUIDE just mentioning what types of tickets there are is enough.
  • 'The depot also houses maintenance workshops...'
  • Make it clear how many depots the system has in total (I am assuming 2 from reading,, do clarify)

Infrastructure[edit]

  • 'a walkway runs along the length...' length of what?
  • Is it possible that the images in the gallery subsection be moved to the relevant sections instead (e.g. pictures of stock in the rolling stock subsection etc.)

Hold[edit]

More comments coming but i will save the edit here first. You have 7 days to rectify the issues that i have mentioned. If you have any queries, do leave me a message at my talk page or ping me. Thanks 1.02 editor (T/C) 01:56, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Added more comments. 1.02 editor (T/C) 09:32, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Closing[edit]

I will be closing this article as a fail as the nominator is inactive and there has been no attempt to bring the article up to GA status. Do fix up the issues that i have raised before nominating the article again. Thanks 1.02 editor (T/C) 08:39, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
