Motivation and background story[edit]

The background story leading up to this incident and a (rudimentary) description of the motivation behind it is clearly missing. Without this essential information the article is not of much use and very difficult to categorize. Can someone - perhaps the editor initiating it - please supply this key information? Thank you.
