Language Institute, Chiang Mai University[edit]

As Chiang Mai University has the policy to establish an autonomous organization under Chiang Mai University in preparation for becoming an autonomous university, thus, it was deemed appropriate to establish a Language Institute to be responsible for developing the potential for learning and developing language skills in an autonomous system of management to be independent, flexible and self-reliant.

Under the authority of Clause 15(2) of the Chiang Mai University Act B.E. 2530, the Chiang Mai University Council in Meeting No. 6/2546 on August 23, 2003 has established that a unit of Chiang Mai University shall be called The Language Institute with operations focusing on flexibility, efficiency and self-reliance to be monitored by the University with English name being "Language Institute". —Preceding unsigned comment added by JungleJoe (talkcontribs) 05:21, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In an effort to privatize Chiang Mai University, many of the faculties are making the transition to become self-reliant. The Language Institute was the first, but now almost a dozen have followed suit. If the Language Institute continues to be removed from the wiki article, soon all faculties will have to be removed as well. --JungleJoe —Preceding undated comment added 03:52, 19 August 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Problem with the Language Institute edit[edit]

The CMU website places the language institute in an "autonomous education facility" section on their website, therefore putting it in the Faculty section may not be correct. --Jeffmcneill (talk) 01:25, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Language Institute is a central part of the Chiang Mai University. The board of directors of the Language Institute are the board of directors for the University. The Language Institute adheres to all the regulations of the University. (comment from User:JungleJoe)
The Language Institute is an item of significant interest to the Wiki community. Especially since this English wiki is used primarily by English speakers. The Language Institute is one of the most important sources of foreign services on Campus. Students enrolled at the Language Institute are entitled to the use of most campus facilities, such as the library, swimming pool and gymnasium. Students enrolled at the Language Institute for a duration of one year or more are entitled to Student ID cards. (comment from User:JungleJoe)

This does not seem to be the case as I am enrolled for one year and they have not been able to provide either the letter for facilities use or a student card. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.157.185.229 (talk) 15:13, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Language Institute, Revisited[edit]

It has been recommended to move the LI reference to a list other than faculties. Since the LI does not offer degrees, it should be moved to a separate list such as -Schools within CMU- This would include the Demonstration School and the College of Media and Arts --JungleJoe (talk) 09:28, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New List (Schools within Chiang Mai University)[edit]

--JungleJoe (talk) 03:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is a good start. I endorse this edit. Is there a longer name for Language Institute? A full name would be good if it has a longer one. For the malware, no need to reference it. Removal of the link and having a comment in the edit in the History is usually good enough for other editors to understand. Thanks for your efforts on this. --Jeffmcneill (talk) 01:21, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

General problems with the article[edit]

I see this as an opportunity to make a better article, one which is more accurate, informative, and serves the Wikipedia community. Some of the language used in this article could be otherwise copyrighted, needs better referencing, and in general could be developed further. I have placed several tags that inform the reader and should help guide our efforts to improve the article. --Jeffmcneill (talk) 01:18, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
