I removed this from the intro:

Finally it is worth noting that the MacLeod lineage is of enough age and provenance to qualify as Immemorial nobility. The MacLeods and their ancestors are contemporaries of the famous Clann Somhairle. No others are known for sure in Scotland and so the chiefship is especially precious. This immemorial nobility cannot simply pass through the female line indiscriminately.

This seems to be more of an editor's opinion, than an encyclopedic fact.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 08:19, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well it actually is not. I agree many are unfamiliar with this category but there is no question the legitimate MacLeods actually belong to it. All it means is that they were regarded as nobility from their ancient beginnings and were not awarded this status by any monarch. The fact the Irish paid attention to them is further proof. It could be rephrased but I believe it should be in the article. In any case the current de facto chiefs are not of noble lineage themselves and so can inherit none of it. The Taliskers are the immemorial nobles and this should be mentioned. DinDraithou (talk) 15:03, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
