Text of the Chinese Immigration Act

[edit]

Not to be difficult, but the URL isn't pointing to a copy of a legal document found on the Library and Archives Canada web site is my first concern. My next would be that the text doesn't read like a proper piece of legislation either. (ex. http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/canada-gazette/093/001060-119.01-e.php?image_id_nbr=139674&document_id_nbr=5177&f=g&PHPSESSID=0gnua664loc2bvt8unn0kkipk6) Now I can accept that the copy of the Act might be missing from the Library And Archives site, but I found twelve references to an "Act to Prevent the immigration of Chinese" and all the Orders indicated that they were "disallowed" - which I would think means not passed.

All that to say I couldn't find any Chinese Immigration Act until the one passed in 1900, then amended in 1902. Thanks. MadHatter73 (talk) 10:06, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Canada was not a colony of Britain in 1885

[edit]

Furthermore, despite mass fervor towards the banning of Chinese immigrants in 1885, due to Canada being a colony under Britain, the passing of Chinese exclusion would not be possible. Canada became independent in 1867 and was not subject to British law. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.69.65.75 (talk) 16:55, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
