What is going on with all the page moves?[edit]

Are people contending that Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, Ontario is a place name? The article is clearly about the tribe, the Chippewas of Georgina Island.

Right now the article is the equivalent of an article about Canadians named Canadians of the Dominion of Canada, World — more than a little silly. Why do I say that?

  • The people are the Chippewas of Georgina Island
  • The name of the reserve is Georgina Island First Nation Reserve. I would argue the First Nation part is an optional descriptive title currently in vogue on the island like Dominion is out of vogue for Canada. Reserve is also an optional descriptor and some dislike the word.
  • The name of one of the places is Georgina Island, Ontario. The reserve also includes Fox and Snake Islands.

I originally moved the article from Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, Ontario to Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. I interpreted the article as primarily being about the Georgina Island First Nation, and not one of the three reserves that the First Nation has members living on. Given that, I felt that having the word Ontario in the article name was not appropriate. To my knowledge our convention is to add province or territory location names only to geographic articles, and not to articles about organizations such as First Nations or Bands in Canada. As for including "First Nation" or not, I would prefer "Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation" to "Chippewas of Georgina Island" because including the words "First Nation" reinforces the existence of a formal governmental organization to the reader. I have no problem with that. DoubleBlue (Talk) 05:07, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops! I thought the article was on the community, and not the actual tribe. Feel free to move it back, but a page is needed for the physical community itself. -- Earl Andrew - talk 05:51, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I made the same mistake Earl. Sorry for causing such confusion everyone.
Concerning articles related to this one:
Also, move this back to Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. I base this on Kurieeto's comments, and the external website (which actually uses First Nations). Is this accurate? Mindmatrix 12:33, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I can confirm that there is only one band on this reserve and I have moved it to the suggested title. I have many more sources that confirm this name. I think the "First Nations" part is just a little spelling error with someone getting used to talking about the First Nations. I think that of the articles Earl Andrew lists, the present article on the band is the most interesting, encyclopedic, and expandable. I also believe any info on the reserve or island contained therein could be included there until someone feels able to write an encyclopedic article on one of them alone.
