Strange line

"Evans grew up the son of a dentist and a dancer."

This line is quoted in every single article about Chris Evans, without exception. His father is indeed a dentist, and his mother was once employed as a dancer, but anyone who knows the family enjoys laughing at this oft-repeated line. Chris' mother has been many things - including an extremely devoted matriarch and the former executive director of an important youth theater company - but this simplistic, alliterative phrase is rather absurd, like saying the child of a war veteran, born years after the conflict, grew up "the son of a soldier".

However, without sources to corroborate anything different than that, that line needs to remain that way. --Vizcarra 02:06, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

born in Sudbury?

"Evans was born in Sudbury, Massachusetts."

Sudbury has no hospital. The neighboring towns of Concord, Framingham and Marlborough all have hospitals. This should be corrected. Unless, of course, circumstances caused his birth to occur in Sudbury. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.34.57.165 (talk) 00:45, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Not Another Teen Movie Reference

"The film contained a somewhat notorious spoof of the Varsity Blues movie, where (to attract the attention of a girl) Evans entered the room wearing nothing more than whipped cream and cherries covering his nipples and crotch, and a banana sticking out of his buttocks."

This line doesn't fit. It's a reference to his movie, one of many that could be picked out, and should not be there. I'm removiing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.57.116.191 (talk) 16:03, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

not really italian?

he came in Italy to promote "F4 II" and he never said he's part italian... very often italian american actors say it, for a lot of good reasons, so imho it's better controlling the sources where it's written he's half italian... .--70.119.241.160 19:19, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Sources for him being both Irish and Italian. How hard is that to believe?

Well with a surname like EVANS it's very hard to believe he is IRISH —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.25.131.151 (talk) 11:40, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

sex symbol?

"Chris Evans is more recently gaining notoriety as a sex symbol, he was voted "third Hottest Body of the Year" on Gay.com."

So Evans is considered a sex symbol because he was voted as being hot on a gay website? Perhaps if he were gay, I could see the relevance.

The tone of this comment seems slightly homophobic, in that he apparently has to be gay himself before gay fan interest matters? It's a poorly constructed critique if anything. Nonetheless, being voted something by a gay website does seem like a piece of trivia more so than vital information, unless there were a string of further examples maybe. --70.119.241.160 19:19, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

It's not homophobic... Please be civl. It means nothing to the article as a whole. 74.5.111.155 (talk) 06:50, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Forbes' Star Currency

His ranking on Star Currency has nothing to do with how much he makes, but rather with how bankable his movies are. He received a 3.94 out of 10 - not something to really be bragging about as it is worded. He's 474 out of 1410 actors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.102.122.20 (talk) 23:05, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

I just checked this out... ridiculous. Have you seen the people he's ranked behind? I'm taking it out of the lead paragraph and moving it down to the career section with a much more qualified statement.76.27.140.208 (talk) 21:43, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

His brother's sexuality

The sexuality of Chris Evans' brother is not remarkable, notable. nor of any relevance to this article. The presumption must always be in the favour of privacy; Scott Evans is not even the subject of this article. This is a fairly clear violation of our strict policy concerning Biographies of living persons. This information has been removed. Rje (talk) 20:07, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Article seems to be a vandalism target

I added this page to Wikipedia:Most vandalized pages.

I first got involved when I saw a link to the vandalized article on Reddit. There seems to be quite a history of anonymous changes and bogus accounts editing this article recently.

I'll continue keeping an eye on Reddit as I've seen links to other vandalized pages in the last month. It looks like some of the perpetrators come from that site. C_J_E (talk) 05:23, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Jessica Biel relationship?

This needs a reputable source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.104.46.28 (talkcontribs)

Chris Evans and Jessica Biel dated from 2001 to 2006 and not 2004 to 2006 like most websites are reporting. People.com which is the most reliable celebrity source is the only one to be correct. http://www.people.com/people/jessica_biel/biography/ A little research and you can find pictures of them from 2001. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saraz89 (talkcontribs) 21:07, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Rotten Tomatoes

Is adding a column for Rotten Tomatoes scores in the filmography table a thing? Is it a test? I don't see it being done for any other actor. --Ebyabe talk - Union of Opposites ‖ 12:50, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Boston or Sudbury

Hello! Please, the article says he was born in Boston and raised in Sudbury, Massachusetts, but he is in Category:People from Sudbury, Massachusetts. I was looking for sources, but they are also confused. How to proceed? Minerva97 (talk) 20:38, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

I think it's fine as is. He was born in Boston but raised in Sudbury, so I believe it's correct to say he is from the latter. Calidum 20:56, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
The fact that Evans grew up in Sudbury does not negate the fact that he was born in Boston. In this case, I think the article should be in both categories. Minerva97 (talk) 14:26, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
That would be fine by me. Calidum 17:33, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Frequent work with Scarlett Johannson

So, with other actors like the Apatow group that always work together, I think it's notable to have that Evans and Johnasson have worked together frequently (Avengers: Age of Ultron being their 5th film together). I had made the edit:

"Evans has worked on numerous films with actress Scarlett Johansson. They have appeared together in the films The Perfect Score (2004), The Nanny Diaries (2007), The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and will appear together again in the upcoming 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron."

But Doniago fairly removed it saying it might be considered trivial unless backed by a reliable source. I found a couple, one by The Los Angeles Times, and one from Variety. Thoughts on adding this to his career section? LADY LOTUSTALK 15:33, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

The sources listed are definitely a help, but I'd like to reserve comment pending feedback from other editors. Thanks for your even-handed approach to this! DonIago (talk) 15:36, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
I think it could at least be mentioned. I'd find it trivial if they only did two films, but they're currently working on their fifth together. And a possible sixth and seventh in the future. Rusted AutoParts 20:11, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
I would say that if we are going to mention it we should at least say something more substantive than simply which films they appear together in. I.e. "The Times has noted that the characters Evans and Johannson play evince a great deal of chemistry in the films they've shared." A simple listing of the films in which they've appeared is something I'd probably oppose. DonIago (talk) 15:59, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
I wouldn't do a list either, I'd just tack it onto a sentence like "Evans appeared in the 2004 teen heist film The Perfect Score alongside frequent co-star Scarlett Johansson" or something. Rusted AutoParts 18:52, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Or how about, tacking on "Avengers: Age of Ultron will be his fifth film that he has appeared in with Johansson", after this sentence: "His upcoming films include his directorial debut, 1:30 Train,[28] the sequel to The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron and the third Captain America film.[29]" that is already in the article? LADY LOTUSTALK 19:40, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Also, someone removed a line which mentioned how close friends they are in the personal life section! Can someone please put it back! Amanmohd2105 (talk) 00:34, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

Main picture of almost every Marvel star taken by same photographer for years

I slowly noticed over a long period that I kept seeing color schemes or logos indicative of a comic con in the backgrounds of many of the Marvel stars, which isnt that outrageous since those are good photo opportunities, but then I also thought surely these people are photographed everywhere all the time, what are the chances all these articles just happen to have a picture from a comic con as thier main photo? So I decided to actually look at the sources of some of the photos and saw they are all taken by the same photographer- Gage Skidmore (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gage_Skidmore)

I wonder do wikipedia editors just happen to alway use this photographer since they allow them to be used or is this photographer making a concerted effort for their images to always be the ones used for some of the most popular people on wikipedia for some kind of personal glory or indirect financial interests? I don't know if there is any sort of policy on this (wikipedia editors have huge written policies on just about everything right?) but its just seems kind of shady. Each image itself is of course of acceptable quality but if one was going through multiple different articles at some point they start to look like prom photos where every couple is in front of the same one backdrop which kind of starts to make them all look not so quality anymore.

You can go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avengers:_Age_of_Ultron start rolling your mouse over every name in the first paragraph and 14 out of 18 have their main photograph taken by Skidmore.

Quotation mark error

There is an extra set of quotation marks that needs to be removed. It can be found in the "Career" section, subsection "2005–2010: Comic book films and other roles." The text currently reads:

Toronto Star's Rob Salem thought the film was a "significant improvement" from the first", and the critic from Chicago Reader thought the cast were "amusing enough" to carry the sequel.

The set of quotation marks after the word "improvement" should be removed. Additionally, should the comma after the word "first" be contained by the ending quotation marks? The corrected text should read as follows:

Toronto Star's Rob Salem thought the film was a "significant improvement from the first," and the critic from Chicago Reader thought the cast were "amusing enough" to carry the sequel.

1997–2004: Early roles

  • Please try and find a better reference than #18 (it is a blog based and seems to be based on IMDB)
  • Reference 19 needs date published
  • I think the quote is oddly placed, could use a better segue
  • Evans made his screen debut in the family drama The Newcomers in 2000. A year later, he appeared in Not Another Teen Movie (2001), a parody film in which he plays high school footballer Jake Wyler. – can this be expanded? Seems like a lot of information given to us all at once. Maybe add one more sentence about both of the films.

Seems like a lot of information given to us all at once. Maybe add one more sentence about both of the films.
I also fixed citation 13, which confirms that Evans is related to a politician. However, citation 14 is a YouTube video and found no great source to confirm this. So the user may want to take the information to the talk page.Filmman3000 (talk) 18:02, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Lizzy150 I agree with Filmman3000 about removing reference 14. Once that is done, I will pass this. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:27, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
I have another two disagreements with Lizzy150. One minor and the other somehow significant. I resolved them, Evans works from 2000 and 2001 are glued in one paragraph. I don't think they should since the 2001 project is a major film release. This is minor and I also think the logic is to keep early 2000 works together.
The other is that he acted in one episode of Tv show during that time which I added. It was deleted since. These small credits can be skipped over sometimes when a person did a lot of tv appearance within a short amount of time, for example Jessica Chastain. I think the episode should remain.Filmman3000 (talk) 00:09, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Filmman3000 Thanks for your input. The reason why I kept his 2000-01 works together was to reduce the amount of short, stumpy paragraphs. Secondly, I deleted one of his acting credits on a TV show because I think they're insignificant - the reader can click on List of Chris Evans performances at the top of the career section to view them all. I'm okay with the current state, but please note it's up to the first reviewer to decide.
HickoryOughtShirt?4, I've removed the sentence with reference 14 as I couldn't find a reliable source for this. Thanks. L150 11:17, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Note: Chris Evans is a redirect and so is ineligible to be a current title in a move request. P.I. Ellsworth  ed. put'r there 01:14, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
  • I have to oppose this. There are two very famous people called Chris Evans. Chris Evans (actor) should stay where it is, as should Chris Evans (presenter). Chris Evans should become a disambiguation page, and should also be linked from Christopher Evans. Deb (talk) 12:36, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Support, primary per pageviews. 162 etc. (talk) 15:41, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Support per nom. This Google Trends comparison also shows that search interest for the actor is as high as (and sometimes even higher than) that for the name. KyleJoantalk 17:52, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Support – overwhelmingly higher pageviews on Wikipedia as seen here. Daily average for the actor is 21.516 and for the presenter is 1748. —El Millo (talk) 19:06, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
    • Including all listed at Christopher Evans (where Chris Evans currently redirects) here (the ones not included due to the 10-article limit have less than 10 daily views on average), the subject of this article still is the overwhelming leader in pageviews. All others listed in the Pageviews Analysis have a combined daily average views of 2095, compared to the 21.516 that Chris Evans (actor) has. —El Millo (talk) 01:34, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Support: Agreeing with the argument from the others, this page gets more views than the others with the same name. More recognizable and the views for the case. Kinsley Bottom (talk) 06:11, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The broadcaster is probably still the primary topic in the UK. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:03, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Support. The actor is objectively the primary topic worldwide as evidenced by page views. -- Calidum 14:20, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
Edit: For those asserting, without any real evidence, that the TV presenter is "more famous" in the UK, I suggest you read Wikipedia:BUTIDONTKNOWABOUTIT, which covers this exact situation. Also, I hate to be the bearer of the bad news, but there is more to the world than just the UK. -- Calidum 18:07, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
I have no interest in trying to prove that one Chris Evans is more famous than the other. My concern is the potential WP:BLP issues which would be likely to arise where readers could be mislead by wikilinks to the actor's article added by editors who intend to target the broadcaster's article. As for the data, the British Evans has spent the past 30-odd years presenting various BBC national drivetime radio programmes which consistently attract millions of listeners, amongst various other media roles. This data isn't particularly hard to come by, indeed you can find it in some of the citations on the presenter's article. It doesn't take a great deal of WP:COMMONSENSE to work out that a not insignificant number of people would be WP:ASTONISHed to find that the bare page "Chris Evans" was about somebody other than the broadcaster, especially given the broadcaster is famous for being a person called Chris Evans rather than playing various fictional characters with different names. I also don't understand what the benefit to having the actor's article be at the bare undisambiguated title is. The only impact I can see it having is the aforementioned WP:BLP issue resulting from mistargeted wikilinks. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 12:10, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Support. The pageview charts provided by Facu-el Millo suggests that Chris Evans the actor is the primary topic here. SkyWarrior 02:47, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Weak support does seem like the PRIMARYTOPIC for the name.--Ortizesp (talk) 13:58, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose while Chris Evans is well known in US and some countries as a actor, but is not case in UK and other countries, where the British presenter of Top Gear is also claimed primary, so neither of them called primary topics because both are significant. 118.96.60.103 (talk) 21:46, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
  • Support for myself, because I live in the Philippines, and the American actor is trending in our country for being the first American endorser for Smart Communications. Sorry for using my second account because my main account was blocked from editing due to original research by Bagumba. TheRafaMarc15's 2nd Account (talk) 00:37, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
You can't do that. That's WP:BLOCKEVASION. Per Wikipedia:Sockpuppetry: Sanctions apply to individual editors as people, not to accounts. —El Millo (talk) 00:57, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
Evasion issues aside, WP:RMCOMMENT says: Nomination already implies that the nominator supports the name change, and nominators should refrain from repeating this recommendation on a separate bulleted line. I've struck the bolded "support".—Bagumba (talk) 01:52, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose. According to the imdb[1] Chris Evans (actor) was added as number 'V' (5) to the database, and Chris Evans (presenter) was added as number 'I' (1). Chris Evans (presenter) attained notoriety before Chris Evans (actor). Otherwise I agree with Deb on disambiguation. 203.219.229.68 (talk) 08:38, 1 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Weak oppose, I'm going to be UK-centric here, but as EN Wikipedia represents the whole English-speaking world it is important to know that Chris Evans (presenter) is just as known over here. Pageviews would have a bias towards countries with larger populations, so I think it's a bit rough to declare the actor much more important by that margin. Perhaps the actor may well have more outstanding notoriety in retrospect universally, but I personally think it's a bit too soon to decide that. Lazz_R 12:39, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose This is a clear US/UK split. Chris Evans the actor is clearly the primary topic in the United States however Chris Evans is the clear primary topic in the British Isles among other places. Thus it is not clear enough which is one is the overall primary topic. This not the US encyclopedia instead the global English speaking one. Regards  Spy-cicle💥  Talk? 08:39, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Support. US/UK split or not, pageviews are utterly definitive. BD2412 T 01:48, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
  • At last, a huge support. When I searched Google for Chris Evans, the American actor is the main topic in my hometown, the Philippines. And not the British presenter. TheRafaMarc15 (talk) 02:48, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
I've edited your comment to remove the vote. As stated earlier, your support is implied, you don't vote on your own proposal. 162 etc. (talk) 15:36, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

  • Oppose - No WP:PRIMARYTOPIC; in the UK the broadcaster is more famous (in particular because the actor is more widely known for the roles he plays rather than his own public persona) and having someone else be at the base name without disambiguation would be likely to WP:ASTONISH readers. Would recommend a WP:SNOW closure since this is clearly an America-centric move request on a global encyclopaedia. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 04:40, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Support, and link to the disambiguation page. Page views show this is obviously the primary topic. And it's hardly US centric, Im in Canada and have never heard of the presenter in my life until now. I'm sure this is the case for most English speaking countries other than the UK. —WildComet talk 03:42, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
The presenter is famous for being a person called "Chris Evans" while the actor is famous for playing a character called "Captain America". There are tens of millions of people who would be WP:ASTONISHed that the bare article title "Chris Evans" was for the biography of a different person. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 05:38, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose per above. In the UK, the presenter is the overwhelming primary topic. This may not be obvious to US viewers who haven't heard of him, but Chris Evans the presenter is a very famous individual on this side of the pond. Overall, the disambiguation page is best, to avoid astonishment on either side, as with Jon Snow.  — Amakuru (talk) 14:55, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Filmography naming convention.

The majority of articles for actors on wiki have a dedicated filmography page, and it is named as such.

This entry refers to it as "performances" and it is buried under a heading.

Request that a filmography section is created, or the link to performances is made more prominent to aid in navigation.

under personal life, it is supposed to say engaged to Alba Baptista or dating Alba Baptista[1] 🐈 Madelinekahnnnn (talk) 13:08, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Not done: The source you provided doesn't say anything about them being engaged. If they're just dating, then that's lovely, but Wikipedia is not a gossip site. DonIago (talk) 07:40, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
He is not officially engaged to Alba Baptista so it should only appear when this information has been confirmed. 2607:FA49:D53E:3000:1113:B694:86BB:BE70 (talk) 15:10, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Ok fair enough, I didn't meantion them being engaged someone else did Jenzzyuk (talk) 14:44, 20 February 2023 (UTC)
Chris confirmed that they are dating (not talking about engagement), so why was that part removed? MadisonGold (talk) 16:09, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
Because WP:NOTGOSSIP, as noted above. DonIago (talk) 17:30, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Delete Alba Baptista from Spouse section as there has been no official confirmation from Chris or his PR Team stating such a union has been made. His Representatives at BROJAM have deleted it previously, but someone with user foreverxnature keeps changing it with no proof of marriage. Itsjustpr (talk) 16:55, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Not done: Chris and his PR team aside, there are Wikipedia-supported citation sources for the marriage. This includes NBC and CBS. CMacMillan (talk) 17:02, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
So with other words Chris or alba confirmation is not the proof you need, but only news outlets. Chris never confirmed this marriage this is heresy. ThatoneGirl12 (talk) 18:52, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Heresy vs Hearsay. Many people deny things that actually happened, which is why Wikipedia uses reliable sources for citations. CMacMillan (talk) 21:57, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Again we’re do you hear or see any confirmation from Chris evans or alba? Those magazines are not reliable ThatoneGirl12 (talk) 03:06, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm not sure what your interest is here, but both NBC and CBS news outlets are considered reliable sources. Gossip magazines and random Wikipedia accounts are not. EDIT: And while we're at it: LA Times, Boston News, Global News, Entertainment Tonight, Harper's Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Marie Claire... even the Hindustan Times has the sourced story. CMacMillan (talk) 21:07, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Im hear to set the record straight and that means if alba or Chris’s team never confirmed anything why are you placing a rumored marriage on his page. NBC and CBS are news outlets and went with the story that people mag and page 6 wrote. And in both of those articles is never been a confirmation from there teams. ThatoneGirl12 (talk) 21:12, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
You are an anonymous user with zero standing. This is not hard to comprehend: You have no ability to set a record, straight or otherwise.
You are not an acceptable source. CMacMillan (talk) 21:14, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Why is it so hard for you to change anything. There is no confirmation from them only gossip magazines started with this rumor and all the news outlets went crazy with it. ThatoneGirl12 (talk) 21:17, 12 September 2023 (UTC)

Marriage

I am opening a discussion regarding the inclusion of the marriage as it seems there is opposition to my edit. I have no issue with People itself. It's just that the source itself is basing on "sources" to confirm a marriage. That in itself is very questionable. If they said she was pregnant, citing "sources" for the info, would we include the information as well? I see it as a major violation of WP:GOSSIP when we include content that has not been officially confirmed by either party. Would we be doing the same if TMZ reported the exact same content? This exact same issue occurred with Ethan Slater and Ariana Grande, when it was reported he divorced his wife and they began dating. Neither party confirmed their relationship and again People was basing itself on "sources". This, once again, is debatable, unverifiable and can be seen as unreliable. – Callmemirela 🍁 23:02, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
