GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not) |

I am taking this on primarily to piggyback off the partially completed review by BritneyErotica, but I will take my own look at some areas.
Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated.
- Hi. Thank you for the review. Although a couple of those grammar mistakes were from an earlier revision of the article, most of those were done by me, so I greatly appreciate you pointing them out. Also, some of the translational errors (aside from the last one) were directly pulled from the article cited, but I should've revised them before copy-pasting them in. I fixed the errors noted in the review, so please tell me if there is something else I should do. Thanks.

- Great, @Dontuseurrealname. I have some thoughts in the sourcing and images sections that need attention. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 04:33, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- I've addressed the issues accordingly. Also, Remezcla and Hola! are frequently used on other Latin music GAs, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure on how to determine it they (or any sources for that matter) are reliable beyond just looking at URL domain endings and whatnot.

Copy changes
[edit]Lead
[edit]- first and only top-ten entry the AMPROFON Top 100 Mexico chart Missing a word, probably "on".
- "Me Dejé Llevar" is missing the accent on the second é in "Dejé". Check this for consistency as I see it in other areas.
- It peaked at number nineteen on the Top 100 Mexico, and scored three top-ten hits with the singles "No Te Contaron Mal", 'Nada Nuevo", and "De Los Besos Que Te Di". The first comma is not needed. I have User:Sammi Brie/Commas in sentences, a whole userspace essay on this topic. There is one subject, "It".
- In 2021, the single "Botella Tras Botella" with rapper Gera MX became the first regional Mexican song to enter the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 60. As of September 2023, the song is currently Nodal's most streamed song on Spotify. In February 2022, Nodal signed with Sony Music Mexico after being sued by Universal Music Latin. In May 2022, Super proseline-sounding. The best way to fix this is to combine the February and May 2022 sentences. "...Latin; three months later, ..."
Early life
[edit]- in Caborca, Sonora, Mexico to musicians Even "Mexico" needs a trailing MOS:GEOCOMMA.
Career
[edit]- on the social media platform Facebook Facebook (and later, Instagram) don't need descriptions on first introduction.
- on their Jaripeo tour dubbed "Jaripeo Sin Fronteras" I'd add a comma after "tour". This is an appositive.
- in Miami, United States prematurely Listing the country for a world city like Miami is not necessary.
- In November, Nodal released the single "Dime Cómo Quieres", a duet between him and Ángela Aguilar. According to Ángela, Nodal sent her father Pepe Aguilar the song,
- You've already introduced Ángela, so no need to link her again in this section.
- Reword to "Nodal sent the song to her father Pepe, ..."
- whom he would later be engaged to try "to whom he would later be engaged"
- "Te Llore un Río" Is this Te Lloré un Río with an accent on the E? It makes sense (trans. "I Cried You a River"). Also there's "Mexico en Mi Voz" which is missing an obvious accent é.
- number twenty-eight etc., consider writing the two-digit numbers as numbers
- Nodal stated "This EP means a lot to me. I am from Sonora and of the 16th of September, in everything, you listen to Mexican music" This translation is not the most faithful. The original reads, Este EP significa demasiado para mí. Yo soy de Sonora y el 16 de septiembre, en todas las casas, se escucha la música tradicional mexicana. The second sentence should read, I'm from Sonora, and on September 16, in every house, you hear traditional Mexican music.
Artistry and public image
[edit]- "Amazon Prime Music" should be "Amazon Music". I made a couple of additional tweaks here.
- Balvin would later post a video apologizing but controversially filtered the word "Belinda" on his post. This passage needs to be cited.
- Days after the Instagram posts, Nodal would release the diss track "Girasol" aimed at Balvin. Nodal would, however, Get out of the WOULDs (WP:INTOTHEWOULDS) a bit, though the second time is merited. Days after the Instagram posts, Nodal released the diss track "Girasol" aimed at Balvin. Nodal would, however, ...
- I was hurt by, I was exposed Whoa nelly, we've got another clunker of a translation. The original of this passage is "Quizás si me hubieran preguntado si yo estaba bien con que él me subiera en su cuenta de 50M lo del "encuentren las diferencias" hubiera sido diferente pero al contrario ME DOLIERON LAS BURLAS Y LA GRAN EXPOSICIÓN. Translate the last part as I was hurt by the taunts and being exposed.
- In November 2021, a leaked letter from Universal Music Latin, Nodal's record label at the time, advised relevant parties against distributing Nodal's music. In February 2022, Nodal's parents Silvia Nodal and Jaime González were sued by Universal Music for fraud. Avoid proseline by switching the start of the second sentence to "Three months later," Also, "Silvia Nodal and Jaime González" is an appositive to be set off by commas.
Personal life
[edit]- on the set of the reality television series, La Voz. This is not an appositive as written—it's essential to the text—and the comma should be junked. Why? Because "on the set of the reality television series" makes a reader naturally ask "which one?".
- A lot of sentences in the Cazzu paragraph begin with dates. Reword them to make a more natural flow and avoid proseline.
- On September 15, 2023, Nodal and Cazzu announced the birth of their child on social media, who had been born the day before in Argentina. Was social media born the day before in Argentina? No? The appositive is misplaced. I also think the name of the baby would be useful material here if it is known, but a search reveals that even major news media were grasping at straws in early October.
I tried rewriting the Cazzu paragraph. I appreciate that due to its recency the material was not scrutinized as much in GA1:
Shortly after ending his relationship with Belinda, Nodal began dating Argentine singer and rapper Cazzu. However, the two kept their relationship private until sometime during 2023. Cazzu confirmed the relationship after rumors circulated in the wake of Nodal purchasing a lot in Buenos Aires. At a concert in April, Cazzu revealed she was pregnant, and Nodal revealed that the baby was a girl, due sometime in September. In June, Nodal and Cazzu went to France for unknown reasons, starting online speculation of a proposal. The baby was born on September 14, 2023, in Argentina; Nodal and Cazzu officially announced her birth on social media the next day.
Sourcing and spot checks
[edit]- What makes Remezcla and Hola (especially the English-language pages) reliable sources?
- The large quotes in the J Balvin section still need to be split up. There is still a bit too much quoting for my taste. (See for yourself)
- 3: Billboard article:
The 18-year-old regional Mexican singer from Sonora, Mexico, dubs his musical style “mariacheño,” a mix of mariachi and norteño.
...Nodal becomes the first regional Mexican act to reach the top five since Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizarraga’s “Solo Con Verte” peaked at No. 2 in February 2016.
Looks like top five, not top ten. Otherwise checks out. - 15: Billboard article on new Sony Music deal.
- 18: Quédate as a Top 10 single. (Now I notice not even Monitor Latino is consistent in writing accents...)
- 43: Nomination of Ayayay! (Súper Deluxe) at the 22nd Latin Grammys
- 54: Apple Music listing is acceptable for the May 29 release date.
- 72: Article from Hola checks out. Their copy editing is rough, though, in ways that suggests they need some more bilingual and English-fluent people on their copy desk. (In 78 there's "Nodal's persona life")
- 78: Article from Hola checks out.
- 84: RIAA search listing for Nodal's albums. I checked a few: Me Dejé Llevar went triple platinum, Adiós Amor went 21x platinum, and La Sinvergüenza 4x.
- 89: Spotify release date listing for Lo Más Nuevo.
- 103: Aguardiente single release listing on Apple Music.
- 113: Me Extraño single release listing on Apple Music.
Images
[edit]There are three images, all of which are CC-licensed. Captions are fine. One of the images, though, has an issue outside of the scope of your edits, and the infobox image should be switched back to File:Christian Nodal invitación.jpg for now. It's lower-quality but doesn't have the license issue that will need formal resolution.
The actual image of Nodal was apparently uploaded by his PR firm, Latiniconos. However, we need a bit more confirmation of that. I've started the ball rolling on this, but it requires Latiniconos to take some action (namely sending an email to the VRT). I won't hold the GA over this, but you should switch back for now. We can always change back if/when that permission is clarified.
General suggestion, not necessary for GA: Add alt text for people who use screen readers.
- @Dontuseurrealname: The image you chose has a similar issue. "JG Music" is his record label or talent agency or something. We can't confirm we have the rights to use it. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 05:04, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- I've changed the image accordingly. Dontuseurrealname (talk) 15:38, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Dontuseurrealname Thanks. Next step before I spot check would be to address the two sourcing issues. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 01:41, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- I responded to this in the main thread. But to sum up here, Remezcla and ¡Hola! are frequently used by other Latin music GAs, and their articles on song/album releases, artist news, etc, typically match other reliable sources like Billboard. With that said, i'm not aware of any rigorous method of determining if a source if reliable or not, beyond just looking at the URL domain ending and whatnot.

- My bad, I did not see that. I'll get to spot checking next. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 02:08, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Dontuseurrealname: Spot checks came back mostly clean, with one minor issue at ref 3. Once that's fixed, this should be ready to pass. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 21:03, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I can't seem to find the issue with ref 3, can you elaborate a bit?
- – Dontuseurrealname (talk) 23:36, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
- I goofed in writing it up here. Oops. Fixed. Will pass. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 02:56, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
