Verification

[edit]

I'm having a hard time verifying some information presented here; while other sources show the subject is potentially notable, nearly all the references in the current version only mention the article subject in passing. You'd never be able to tell by looking at them that he was a member of the Arkansas State Senate, for example. But, back to the verification thing: I was looking over the sources to check for copyright infringement or close paraphrasing, and I found some article text that is seemingly unsupported. @Roastedbeanz1, would you be willing to find short supporting quotes in the source text that I may have missed?

  • "changed the name to the Arkansas State Gazette to avoid the mention of 'Democrat'" cites "Lion of the South" (no page number given) but I can't find the information in book, even by looking through all mentions of Danley's name.
  • " He made Borland an editor" is cited to both "The Impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on Arkansas: Persistence in the Midst of Ruin" and "Rebellion and Realignment: Arkansas's Road to Secession", but I can't find any where this info came from.

I also note that six disparate pages of "The Impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction on Arkansas" have been cited, but only one or two actually back up the cited text. The other pages just contain passing mentions of the subject. Have you ever tried using something called short form notation for times when you may cite two facts from two different sections of the book?

But anyway, when checking the article's notability, I also found these sources [1][2]; but there's a few references to him on JSTOR articles. Hopefully these are useful to somebody wanting to expand the article. And, finally, is Lion of the South (on pg 26) the only source for information that he apparently got a relative to intimidate somebody with a gun? Because that's interesting, and if you're interested in submitting this (once it's been expanded) to DYK, that would be an interesting hook. Both of your verification issues are my mistake. I will fix those shortly.
For short form notation: I don't really like using it. I find it easier to format references how I have it currently.
As for the extra sources: thanks for finding the painting source, I didn’t see that one in 5 pages of Google. And for the Arkansas Encyclopedia, I decided not to use that, as it primarily cites Find a Grave. Roasted (talk) 07:30, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
