Overlap[edit]

We currently have an article at Joshua the Stylite about "the attributed author of a chronicle" and an article here about "the Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite". The Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite and the Chronicle of Pseudo-Joshua the Stylite are the same thing. The historical Joshua the Stylie was the scribe of the codex of the Chronicle of Zuqnin and possibly also its author/compiler. The real chronicle of Joshua the Stylite is thus the Chronicle of Zuqnin while the chronicle *called* the Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite is in fact anonymous. Thus, some historians insist on Chronicle of Pseudo-Joshua the Stylite to correct the mistaken attribution. See here. —Srnec (talk) 23:58, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is no information on Joshua on Joshua the Stylite. He is only being attributed as the author. The article focuses on the text which should be merged here under the correct name Chronicle of Pseudo-Joshua the Stylite, Pseudo-Joshua the Stylite etc. I don't know much about the Zuqnin Chronicle, but Joshua the Stylite is most likely being falsely attributed as the author for this chronicle which would explain the title "Pseudo-Joshua". The "Chronicle of Zuquin" is also called the "Chronicle of Pseudo-Dionysius" which might also be falsely attributed to Joshua the Stylite according to some sources. [1] & [2]. Now that I think of it, Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite should be a dab page. Jerm (talk) 02:37, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Srnec: I've been looking up Chronicle of Zuqnin, I'm not seeing any sources that's attributing the title "Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite" to it. So far, the title "Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite" is referring to Pseudo-Joshua the Stylite. I also doubt Joshua the Stylite is the author for the Chronicle of Zuqnin per sources provided, just another attribution to him like this chronicle. Jerm (talk) 19:05, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean to imply that the title Chronicle of Joshua the Stylite was applied to that of Zuqnin, only that the latter has in fact been attributed to the real Joshua the Stylite. Trombley and Watt, pp. xxv–xxvi, make this identification: "In our view, therefore, Joshua was not the author of our treatise ..., but the scribe of the codex, and probably also the author of the Chronicle of Zuqnin".
