This looks like it could be one more excellent article on another Broadway theatre by Epicgenius. I look forward to starting a review soon. simongraham (talk) 13:15, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

This is a stable and well-written article. 97.6% of authorship is by Epicgenius. It is currently assessed as a B class article and was a DYK in January 2023.

  • The text is clear and comprehensive.
  • It seems to cover the main aspects of the topic, consistent with relevant Manuals of Style.
  • The article is of reasonable length, with 5.008 words of readable prose. This feels a lot but seems consistent with the topic. There may be questions on whether this is sufficiently of summary style.
  • The lead is reasonable at 325 words.
  • Text seems to be neutral.
  • Both "nonprofit" and "non-profit" are used. Please change one for consistency.
  • The infobox states that capacity is 840. Suggest mentioning the increase in capacity from 650 to 840 in the main text.
  • Suggest reducing the instances of "season". For example, in these sentences:
    • "For 1976–1977, the Circle continued its tradition of staging four Broadway shows per season. During that season, the Levine Theatre hosted The Days in the Trees, The Night of the Iguana, Romeo and Juliet, and The Importance of Being Earnest."
    • "Due to recurring financial issues that nearly prompted the theater company to declare bankruptcy, the Circle delayed the start of its 1979–1980 season to February 1980, extending the run of Loose Ends to cover the gap. Consequently, the season was planned to have three plays, the first two of which were Major Barbara and Past Tense. The final play in the season, The Makropulos Affair, was replaced with The Man Who Came to Dinner on relatively short notice. For the 1980–1981 season, the Circle returned to presenting four plays: The Bacchae, John Gabriel Borkman, The Father, and Scenes and Revelations. During that season, the Circle had originally planned to stage Hamlet, which was replaced with Borkman due to scheduling conflicts."
  • There seem no other obvious grammar or spelling errors.
  • The article relies on a range of sources.
  • There is no evidence of edit wars.
  • Earwig's Copyvio Detector states copyright violation is unlikely, with a score of 29.6%. The closest text is from Theodore Mann's Circle in the Square papers and the majority of instances seem to be simply the name of the theatre.
  • A sample of the accessible sources shows that they seem live.
  • Reading Botto & Mitchell, 2002 at archive.org seems to show that the section starts on page 315 rather than 313. Can you please check the page numbers or edition.
  • Spot checks of Bloom 2007 and the seven Calta articles confirm that references mention the theatre.
  • The images seem appropriate and relevant.
  • All three images have relevant CC or PD tag.

@Epicgenius: It is really good to see another of your excellent theatre articles. Please take a look at my comments above and ping me when you would me to review. simongraham (talk) 15:10, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments @Simongraham. I have addressed all of these issues now. Regarding summary style, the theater had a long history both on and off Broadway (it's one of the few Broadway theaters that were adapted from an off-Broadway theater), but I included as many of the most important details as possible without going into excessive amounts of detail. – Epicgenius (talk) 19:44, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Great work. I will start my assessment now. simongraham (talk) 00:32, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

The six good article criteria:

  1. It is reasonable well written.
    the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct;
    it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead, layout and word choice.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
    it contains a reference section, presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
    all inline citations are from reliable sources;
    it contains no original research;
    it contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism;
    it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail.
  3. It is broad in its coverage
    it addresses the main aspects of the topic.
    it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  4. It has a neutral point of view.
    it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to different points of view.
  5. It is stable.
    it does not change significantly from day to day because of any ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.
    images are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content;
    images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.

I believe that this article meets the criteria to be a Good Article.
