Are there still claques? Are they as widespread and prevalent as the article indicates they were during the 1800s? The article says that Toscanini and Mahler discouraged them, but doesn't really indicate how successful that effort was. -- 140.142.20.101 (talk) 22:09, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For sure the audiences of David Letterman where filled with them. Also TNA Wrestling is well known for it. They may not call themselves Claquers, but it is what they are doing. I suspect every singing show like Idol use it too, as there is no way anyone would applaud for half of what they do. I'd say it's alive and well.

I wonder if claques are limited to merely clapping. Rumor has it that, probably in the mid- to late 1940's, producers paid teenagers to scream during Frank Sinatra concerts. I dunno. Were these screamers? 74.100.137.109 (talk) 21:01, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
