There was a similar woman in the UK[edit]

I don't want to sound rude, but what on earth does skin colour have to do with this?! All humans have the same chances of getting melanomic skin cancer, believe it or not. The Commonwealth Government of Australia enacted tighter regulations for solarium usage across Australia, following the Victorian State Government, which moved to tighten regulations within that state after hearing of Clare Oliver via the 7.30 Report and her letter. Looking back at this, years later, could we perhaps establish a consensus as to how significant this individual person is to the broader subject of melanoma-related public awareness and/or public health policy in contemporary Australia?

I ask because I have just stumbled upon this page, and I can't quite work out why it exists. I'm Australian, and the risk of skin cancer has been part of public health and political discourse for as long as I can remember (I'm 30, if that helps contextualise things). I don't recall ever hearing or reading anything about this person. Is she really notable enough to warrant an encyclopaedia entry?

As you can see, I'm a little doubtful of that, but it's entirely possible I'm wrong. What do other people think? Foxmilder (talk) 05:49, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

She wasn't anyone important, just a poor girl who made a few silly mistakes that unfortunately costher life, but I do not think an entry for her is useful to anyone.
