Captain America
[edit]I've been reading a wide variety of British newspapers for years, and have never, ever heard Reyna referred to as "Captain America". Injury-prone, yes, Captain America no.
Tom Prankerd 01:21, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
I differ
Google: "captain america" "claudio reyna" = 767 hits
Google: "injury prone" "claudio reyna" = 349 hits.
Google: "captain america" "claudio reyna" site:.uk = 22 hits
You will noticed he is refered to as "Captain America" while at Manchester City, Sunderland or Rangers. In fact, the Ranger's own official site refer to him as "Captain America".

My bad, I'd never heard it, but I should have given you credit that you'd done your homework. Sorry.

- Hi FuzzyBunny. Since Reyna signed for City I've been to watch them about 50 times and I've read every Guardian match report, but I've never heard that nickname once. Nicknames are usually less syllables than the original name. I've tried your google in UK and none of the links refer to his time at City. This website http://happyaxeman.co.uk/community/index.php?topic=4566.0 has a selection of player profiles by City fans; the 530 word profile of Reyna doesn't mention it once (unlike those of Dunne and Sinclair which give their nicknames). How about "the Rangers website described him as Captain America"? (Chorleypie 14:55, 13 January 2007 (UTC))
First American in World Cup all-star team?
[edit]- "He became the first American ever named to the World Cup's all-tournament team."
According to the article England v United States (1950), John Souza from the U.S. team was selected to a World Cup All-Star team in the 1950 tournament. One of these articles probably needs a correction? --Jonik 15:41, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- He was the first American in the starting line-up of the World Cup all-star team. Or at least that's what a little info box said during a match. Maybe that's the difference. -Iopq 19:20, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Info box?
[edit]See Brian McBride, shouldn't Reyna have one of these, too? Here's a start:

Bobby Convey has an info box, too. Why not Captian America? Dharris 16:36, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Probably should use the standard from the WikiProject Football, Players Formating (which is basically identical to what you have...). It would be nice to clean up all the pages for US national team players too.--Yukata Ninja 22:46, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- I had a similar thought after I posted my above comments. Should we start a project on this and perhaps solicit help from fans at bigsoccer.com? -- Dharris 14:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Project begun. Please feel free to help and edit at User:Dharris/player cleanup -- Dharris 15:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
POV
[edit]"frequently recognized as one of the most skillful ever to play for the United States" 1. This looks POV to me and needs a source 2. As someone who regularly sees Reyna play, I think the US team is in trouble if this is true :p Oldelpaso 18:40, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- 2. It sounds like he may not have been at his best due to injuries while at Manchester City but you are correct in that the US team has not as talent loaded as the best European and South American teams. Only a couple of midfielders and keepers in recent history might fit into a couple of these teams. After some time passes the statement could be changed to "During his career and shortly after, we was considered one of the greatest players..."24.28.21.51 (talk) 11:32, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Ethnicity?
[edit]His name is Latinate, but what country are his ancestors from? I'm just curious. -Iopq 14:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Argentina and Portugal, as stated in the article. Oldelpaso 15:48, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

parental chronology
[edit]The date of subject's father arrival in the USA is given as 1968, however, it is stated he met and married Claudio's mother in the 1950s... Looks like a mistake that needs correcting. CharlieCares (talk) 21:44, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Scandal
[edit]This article downplays his family's personal scandal. The line "It remains to be seen whether his series of interventions will have a lasting effect on his reputation." is directly contradicted by the source it cites, which says "It is now difficult to see how Claudio Reyna can take on any public-facing role and have any credibility at all, no matter his successes with NYCFC and most recently Austin FC." I'm going to clarify. SixFourThree (talk) 15:34, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
