New headings and few edits

[edit]

Hello everyone,

I just recently modified the layout by adding new headers, new citations, and corrected a few misspelled words on the main page. If you have any questions or have some feedback that would help as I am still trying to learn how to properly edit a wiki article. Thank you. Virtuous Kettle1 (talk) 18:55, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New section 'understanding climate risks'

[edit]

In this section I have added text based on the AR6 findings and the use of the climate risks framework since AR5, and an exerpt from the CCA article (which I updated earlier). Some reflections :

What is actually missing I think is the non-technical understandings of climate risk, risk perception and subjectivity that people have, including the decision-and policy makers. This would be an important counterpoint to the scientific risk assessment. I would be interested to add something on these lines, if useful.

I am not sure how to proceed with explaining the different types of risk in the next section. This seems not very well structured currently. I thought that better use could be made of excerpts from other wikipedia articles on risks, and adding a few exaples in relation to CC. However there are few other high quality articles that could be used: one on 'environmental risk' for example is missing. Another option is to work more on the sets of risks (RFCs) described by the IPCC Richarit (talk) 15:51, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I find this an interesting idea: "What is actually missing I think is the non-technical understandings of climate risk, risk perception and subjectivity that people have", however I wonder if this is already covered in other Wikipedia articles. Maybe in Public opinion on climate change and eco-anxiety. I will add those two under "See also" for now. EMsmile (talk) 16:08, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I agree that the section that is currently called "types" is rather messy. Should it rather be "sectors"? But then we'd have to careful not to overlap with other Wikipedia articles where this is already covered in a similar way, like at climate change adaptation. EMsmile (talk) 16:09, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I don't know of any common framework for types of risks. It could also be organised as technical, financial/economic, social issues, political risk etc but this these could look very different for each domain, eg. water management, land use, disasters etc. so I am not sure if it is better. I opted to include sectors because I have recently looked into these for the climate change adaptation article so I could easily summarise the risks based on text from that page.
There are likely to be different (and more) risk categories in climate risks, compared to that CCA article, because climate risks exist for which adaptation options haven't really started to be developed (like international risks or business risks). Would be interested to hear other thoughts on the risk types Richarit (talk) 12:49, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
