Started tidying up, added reference and removed "no cite" tag[edit]

Lots more to do. Author definitely notable. Stig of the Dump is an English literature classic--Plad2 (talk) 19:34, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It does need much better quality references though. One of the current refs links through to a review that might be useful. Kevin (talk) 00:08, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. I was getting tired. Thanks for the input--Plad2 (talk) 00:28, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now rewritten main body, added slightly better references and created a proper bibliography. Still a work in progress --Plad2 (talk) 14:11, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Added more content, links and refs. That's as much I can do with the resources I have to hand. Will keep an eye on it and encourage others to improve.--Plad2 (talk) 19:59, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Solid, authoritative reference now added and background expanded. "improve citations" template removed.--Plad2 (talk) 17:46, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reassement[edit]

This page was requested for reasssement. I found at this time that it merited a start class quality asssessment and a low importance on the importance scale. At this time the complete bibliography and compliance with WP:BLP suggests that it is more than "a rough collection of information" that signifies a stub. I would say however that this page is just barely a start class and as acknowledged needs work before it approaches C-class. If you wish to discuss this assessment further please contact me at my talk page. Barkeep49 (talk) 21:18, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

As requested on my talk page, I have assessed this article and agree with the current rating of Start class. This article is still very short, and I'm sure much more information could be added to it. Also, it lacks a variety of references and many parts of it are completely unreferenced. To improve, this article should be expanded as far as possible and referenced more completely. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 18:21, 6 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In response to a further request, I have improved this rating to C class, although my earlier comments and suggestions still apply. strdst_grl (call me Stardust) 17:33, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merger with text from The 22 Letters[edit]

The 22 Letters was proposed for deletion via PROD then went to AfD. Result was a decision to keep the article and the suggestion to merge it with the author article (as part of a general expansion and improvement of the article) was noted. Unless anyone feels very strongly otherwise, that is what I propose to do.--Plad2 (talk) 09:02, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd agree with a merge. The book has received very little attention. Fences&Windows 19:47, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, as I recall, it was quite well-received at the time of publication in 1966, but little evidence of that is available on-line and I doubt if anyone is going to have the time available to do an old-fashioned paper research job on it. Until someone does have the time, a merge seems the best solution.--Plad2 (talk) 00:05, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Merger with text from The 22 Letters now completed.--Plad2 (talk) 07:54, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Work in Progress as of April 2010[edit]

Just completed a merger with text from The 22 Letters. Now proposing to add section on writing style and influences and a short section on the classic book, Stig of the Dump. Will keep that short as it has its own page.--Plad2 (talk) 07:57, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've now done as much as I feel like doing on this.--Plad2 (talk) 09:36, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Small mystery[edit]

The article says that "He also served as a Warden for East Sussex County Council from 1955 to 1960." However, it's not clear *what* he was a warden of: presumably not traffic or game, perhaps of a hostel or some other institution, but who knows? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.163.236.249 (talk) 05:32, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
