Fair use pic substituted

[edit]

The pic that was placed there originally, I have replaced, because it is a replaceable fair use image. Unless someone has their own shot of another Coach USA bus, please do not substitute it. --AEMoreira042281 14:13, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is Coach USA?

[edit]

Coach USA is a noncarrier that controls numerous motor passenger carriers, and its wholly owned noncarrier subsidiary, Coach Canada. The operating authority for the buses is vested in the local companies. Their website explains that "Coach USA owns over 20 local companies in North America that operate scheduled bus routes, motorcoach tours, charters, and city sightseeing tours. These local companies are each independently managed and operated to meet the specific needs of their local communities." (Coach USA - about us)

There are very sound corporate reasons for keeping local operations as independent legal entities. With the consolidation of Coach USA operations in the northeast and midwest, they could easily divest themselves of several separate operating companies in Texas and the southwest, to Coach America and others. Recent legal proceedings in Canada were filed against a subsidiary; not the parent company. UK subsidiaries of Stagecoach have a similar status.

Do not confuse operations management with an authorized bus operator. The 'operator' is the name on the government issued license and displayed in the smaller print on the side of the vehicle. This example Image:Coach Canada 3507T.JPG proudly displays the Coach Canada brand with the advisory that it is "A Stagecoach Group Company" and also clearly shows that it is "OPERATED BY TRENTAWY-WAGAR INC" with a US DOT number. Similarly in the UK, this bus Image:Stagecoach 32537.JPG is branded with "Stagecoach in Hastings" but the text on the side reveals the name of "Hastings District Transport Ltd." Many people think of these as 'former' companies, when in fact they are still the legal names under which Stagecoach transacts its business.

That will be taken into account with pictures of #8914 and #1754 in this article, operated by Suburban Trails and Seven Bus Corporation (operated by on the side), and leased from New Jersey Transit, which owns both buses. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 06:03, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Testimonial/review deleted; safety issue remains?

[edit]

The following was included at the end of the article and, as a review or endorsement, has no business being there:

"Good, cheap service overall. beware of safety record in some areas. [article|http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/09/at_least_two_dead_possibly_mor.html]"

The safety record issue might warrant inclusion but a single news story seems anecdotal and thus insufficient to establish a 'safety record'. Editors?Sebum-n-soda (talk) 17:05, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
