Blazoning[edit]

Where is it? -- Perhelion (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:52, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Danish heraldic practice differs from British practice, as heraldic arms were only infrequently blazoned (though this practice is gaining ground, inspired by the British practice). Danish practice was to issue an official drawing, which was henceforth to be copied. It is possible that a blazon may have been issued in 1661, but I've never seen any Danish books mention it or quote it. Since the Greater Coat of Arms of Copenhagen is essentially a modification of the city's previous sigil, it is likely that it was not deemed necessary to issue a formal blazon. When the coat of arms of the Danish monarch was modified in 1819, the order simply contained an official drawing of the new arms, with an instruction to officials to cease using the old arms, and a short description of the main changes and king Frederick VI's reasons for the change. When the royal arms was amended in 1944 and 1972, the official circular only described the changes, it didn't supply a blazon. Valentinian T / C 20:36, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There was a typo in the post above. The royal arms was amended in 1948 and 1972, not in 1944. Valentinian T / C 12:19, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I found the privileges.[1] They don't describe the coat of arms, but merely mention it: "11. Wii hafuer ocsaa denne kongelige residentz och frii riigs stad med saadan waben naadigst anseet och begafuet, som sig wed slige privilegier best kand skicke och herhos er at see, huilchet waaben de udi alle deris forretninger skall och maa bruge, huor och naar de det fornøden erachter." (slightly modified translation: "11. We [Frederick III] have also considered and graceously awarded this royal residential city and free city of the realm with a coat of arms, as will carry such privileges as can best be given, and which here is to be seen, which coat of arms they [the magistrate] shall and may use in all their business, when and if they need it.") The text is accompanied by an illustration. Valentinian T / C 21:00, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
