Album chart positions

[edit]

I have checked with the online database http://www.everyhit.com to confirm that no Cock Sparrer albums to date have reached the charts. I was a bit surprised that none of them had even reached the top 75 of the album charts, but I have amended the article with "Did not chart" to replace the "???"s. I don't have any printed reference books to double check. Grievous Angel (talk) 05:42, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Politics

[edit]

I know the lyrics of their music isn't right-wing, but I think the page should talk about some of the members' far right political beliefs. ---- bill

Well sometimes fans start zig heiling at their shows, also they play at known white supremist venues. ---- bill They can't really control their fans now, can they? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.15.11.146 (talk) 20:30, 1 January 2010 (UTC) No but they can stop playing WP gigs if they wanted to. ---- bill[reply]

Sheer nonsense! Produce evidence that they play at, "white supremist venues"! This is sheer prejudice planted by people who think all Oi bands are right wing. Neither have I ever seen fans Zeig Heiling at their shows.......Faren — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.7.92.123 (talk) 19:55, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What does Barrow means?

[edit]

Hello. You'll have to excuse me but im working on translating this article to the swedish wikipedia and i got stuck quite a early. I suppose "Cock Sparrow" is Cockney slang for "Barrow", but what exactly is Barrow? In this context what does "familiarity" means? Benjaminjuhlin (talk) 18:10, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blimey! This *has* been a long time to wait for an answer. Well, unless someone else has supplied your answers in the meantime, here goes. A barrow in this context is a handcart, a two-wheeled vehicle for carrying things in, typically working tools, or fruit and vegetables to be sold at a market. But instead of a horse, the vehicle would be pulled along by a human being. In firm, it's rather like a gun-carriage only much lighter: it's essentially what would nowadays be replaced for the same purpose by a small van. (It is an entirely different and unrelated word from barrow meaning an Iron Age grave.)

Familiarity in this context means, a term of address, usually denoting comradely affection, between social equals, usually males; as in, "What are you up to [doing], my old cock sparrow?", usually contracted to,"Wotcher, cock." It has no sexual connotation, despite the similarity to cock=penis. Nuttyskin (talk) 13:39, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify, the "Barrow" thing is wrong. "Cock sparrow" (pronounced "sparrer") meaning "friend" is rhyming slang from Romany "marra" meaning friend. Can't wiki this, but it's true. Boynamedsue (talk) 13:25, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
