How

[edit]

How could the code on the picture code93.png encode Wikipedia, if code93 only use UPPER letters? Is it a wrong code (not code 93) or is the text wrong (Wikipedia instead of WIKIPEDIA)?

It is using the extended set as described lower in the page. That being said, GNU barcode has a bug in it where L and K are transposed so the image is actually encoding Wilipedia. Jimbostrudel (talk) 13:09, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd take that statement further -- it is not actually encoding anything according to Code 93 as this barcode's contents do not pass checksum. Some kind soul that has upload power should, pretty please, generate a correct encoding here: http://www.morovia.com/free-online-barcode-generator/ and then replace this image. srowen (talk) 21:29, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've replaced the image with a correct one from http://www.terryburton.co.uk/barcodewriter/generator/ Terry Burton (talk) 01:01, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The current barcode image doesn't have quiet zones. --LonleyGhost (talk) 12:16, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The two check characters do calculate to 6 and $ as encoded in the current illustration. Complicated algorithm. I assume these are not capable of error correction. And yes, quiet zone should be at least 10 modules wide on each end. Rairden (talk) 23:01, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
