Area served

[edit]

Recent changes to the article changed the area served from "Denver, Colorado" to Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area.

I would think it would be a bit better for a worldwide audience reading this article to say something like Denver metropolitan area, Colorado or Denver, Colorado – in both cases with the wikilink to whatever article best covers the Denver metropolitan area. It's quite likely that the airport serves a much broader area than even the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area, serving some pilots and businesses from outside that statistical area, folks who reside in south Weld County and eastern Adams County.

For my eye, it seems a bit too geeky, and too precise to have the text read "Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area", as that implies a precision of area served that is not supported by any source in the article. Moreover, by listing Aurora and Lakewood explicity in the visible article text, two of the larger cities around the City and County of Denver, it leaves out of the visible list a number of other cities in the metro area, for example, Thornton and Westminster which together have quite a bit larger population than Lakewood, and are both closer to the airport than Lakewood. In fact, Lakewood is so far west that many Lakewoodians would likely, though not necessarily, use the services of other airports (e.g. Rocky Mountain Airport) rather than Front Range Airport.
