History POV issues[edit]

I have cleaned up the history page slightly, but there are still POV (see WP:NPOV) problems, if not citation problems. Some of the problems that I see and may fix myself soon if no one gets around to it first:

  1. Balbao's goals is denoted as the greatest in MLS history.
  2. Hankinson's tenure is marked as "controversial" and several players are marked as "duds" (which I think should be reworded even if it is true). I think this section needs a citation

--Rballou 16:50, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I reworded the 2000 season block in this paragraph, significantly cutting out some information. Here is a link to the previous version: [1] --Rballou 21:47, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was a bit surprised that the proposed kit change was deemed as needing citation. In my soccer circles, that is accepted as conventional wisdom (though I don't care for the idea. I hope these ones stay and a green/white jersey is used for away. That'll solve the green issue.) --Coryma 00:38, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. --Quinn 33 14:27, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I slightly reworded the Hankinson paragraph to make it sound less condemning. I think the less abrasive language can waive any need for citation as it is common knowledge among fans and supported statistically. --Quinn 33 10:21, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RapidMan's Official Website[edit]

Hi could you please put an external link for RapidMan's Official Website. RapidMan is the official mascot for the Colorado Rapids Major League Soccer Club. http://www.rapidman.com/

Could you please put it directly under the Official Team Website? Thanks--

Your coach[edit]

Hey guys, about coach Fernando Clavijo. Um, I thought that he was Uruguayan (yet the article states he's american). - If Clavijo a) was born in Uruguay b)lived most of his life there and c) claims all the time to be proud of being Uruguayan and then American (dual citizenship), does that make him ...not Uruguayan? Im kind of confused as "what counts"? (IE: Is Wayne Gretzky American just cause he played there for a few years and decided to live there a few years ago?, cause we should change that article too then if he's american now)

I was under the impression that players, former and current, were always listed by their FIFA status - the flag that they have chosen to play under. Hence, David Regis, who has far less connection to the USA than Clavijo does, would be flagged as an American. I have seen this rule cited by others before - and extended to those who have retired as players and stepped into management - which is why I applied it, believing it to have originated as a standardizing policy of WikiProject Football. However, now that I go looking for a direct statement of this "rule", I can't find it anywhere. I guess that until I see more solid evidence that it's an actual guideline/policy, I'm not gonna bother with it. Bill Oaf 14:01, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

While it is highly likely that the new kits and logo will be the speculated colors (as was leaked from a club supporters event), the new logo and information is still not yet official. Thus I believe it should be unchanged until an actual press release is made. The new kit edit can be found here [2]. Please add your thoughts if you believe differently. Quinn 33 03:07, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. We have the new-kit edit as reference, and can switch over the input when the announcement is made, but we shouldn't put it up until it's definite. Bill Oaf 05:36, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Understandable. I just wanted to make sure all the new logo and kits are up to date. and i've seen from both this website which reported it very early as a leak [3] and here today is the picture which shows the new uniforms with the new crest. [4] You can see the new crest on the corner of the shirt. It can be speculated almost to fact that these are definite, even if the shorts aren't up to date yet. Pharos04 08:59, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On second thought, let's switch. On the one hand, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. On the other hand, Wikipedia is not the pony express. We should react to the abundance of information clearly indicating a change. We'll consider the unveiling at the season-ticket-holder event to be tantamount to an early announcement: a limited release, so to speak. Bill Oaf 05:10, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I swapped it up again. We'll have to see what happens in the next few weeks or so but if nothing changes by like the end of January we can bump it back to the old stuff and save how the current page looks somewhere Pharos04 16:06, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia shouldn't speculate and it shouldn't do original reporting, which is what you're effectively doing by switching the kits before any public announcement. I'm reverting to the current kits. Enkrates 01:15, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I changed my vote based partly on the idea that an announcement in front of a decent-size group of fans is a public announcement. I mean, look at the unveling photo: that looks like an announcement to me, even if it's a limited rollout. Bill Oaf 05:53, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
People that were present at the announcement can attest that the entire uniforms weren't even completed for the said meeting. The Rapids front office even said that the away shorts and socks didn't arrive from the development floor at Adidas yet. Jeff Plush said himself that the uniforms that were shown at the meeting may still be subject to some design tweaking before their official unveiling. It's still too soon to make the change. Quinn 33 19:06, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
At some level, an encyclopedia merely gives a summary of public knowledge. The new kits aren't public knowledge, no matter how many season ticket holders got to see a preview of them. A good rule of thumb will be, as soon as the rapids website shows the kits, then the article should be updated with them. Enkrates 03:20, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just as an update on this...if one checks the website, at the top bar you see the phrase "Change is Coming: 2.1.2007" and if you refresh the page, sometimes the lower-left hand corner starts to show the new shield and another one shows the soccer ball on the new crest with the phrase "Are You Ready for 2007?" before loading the current banner while a third different one shows the phrase "Experience the New Website: 2.1.2007" and a 4th one shows the phrase, "Change is Coming". Perhaps that day is when they'll unveil the new kits. Something to keep an eye on. Pharos04 06:17, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page move[edit]

The move is warranted. See this link. --Elliskev 19:59, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it might be Arsenal Colorado FC... --Elliskev 20:03, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. Until we know for sure it should stay where it is at Colorado Rapids. This isn't officially announced or sourced. Not to mention the link he provides comes up as "bad host". JohnnyBGood t c VIVA! 21:55, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Let's wait until verified. --Chancemichaels 22:01, 1 February 2007 (UTC)Chancemichaels[reply]
Yeah. At the time the link was working... --Elliskev 22:09, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arsenal partnership[edit]

Someone should write something about the recent link-up between Colorado Rapids and Arsenal. Not sure of the details myself but I've heard that their name is changing to Colorado Arsenal... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.158.125.180 (talk) 18:30, 11 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

There was a rumor that the team was going to be changing its name, and a Colorado Arsenal test website (with crest) was leaked before the rebranding was official, indicating that the matter was at least under consideration. The club did not actually change its name, though, and has since insisted that they will not change the name in the future. Considering the reaction to the leaked crest, though, I think it should at least be mentioned. --Chancemichaels 16:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Chancemichaels[reply]

Quality Issues[edit]

There has been a significant amount of volume that has been added to the article in the last few months. Much of this has resulted in redundant information and unnecessary clutter. The actual quality of the article has declined with many of these new additions. The history section is far too wordy and there are some other sections that need too be overhauled or completely removed. Accordingly I have tagged this article for cleanup. -- Quinn 33 (talk) 19:01, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2009 Season article[edit]

Your club doesn't yet have a 2009 Season article, we are hoping to get each of the MLS teams up and going like these; Sounders, Fire, Dynamo, Wizards, and TFC. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at anytime. Thanks Morry32 (talk) 01:07, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite sure you you mean. If you want to edit, you don't need an account, but using one is usually advised. If you set-up an account, I can add a template to your talk page (this is an article talk page, and all editors have their own talk pages) that will point you to some articles to help you get started. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:56, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Change in roster format[edit]

There was a discussion about the new roster format and we have had a trial at both the Timbers and Whitecaps articles and recently Cascadia Cup rival Sounders have converted. The idea is to move all club articles on Wikipedia to the new format as is discussed in the original discussion and more recently at the football project.

My suggestion is to complete the MLS team articles first, so if you could respond at this discussion, that would be ideal. In short, the new layout is slightly taller and less wide, but it correctly impliments WP:MOSFLAG and is better for visually impared users of Wikipedia and others who use readers. I plan to implement the change to this article by the weekend of January 20-22, however other editors could make the change sooner. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:53, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Colorado Rapids[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Colorado Rapids's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
