Use of term "developmentally-challenged"[edit]

@ Rather than us reverting each other's changes let's chat about the use of the term "challenged" instead of disabled. As noted in the wiki style guide on WP:EUPHEMISM

> Norms vary for expressions concerning disabilities and disabled people. Do not assume that plain language is inappropriate. The goal is to express ideas clearly and directly without causing unnecessary offense.

This term is really outdated and offensive to many in the disability community, and the general recommendation by organizations like the APA is to use inclusive/bias-free and non-offense language for describing people with disabilities. https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/bias-free-language/disability Smasongarrison (talk) 14:59, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I used the language in the source, which to me reads as less severe than "disabled". Challenges can exist without a full-on disability? I was going for a wider range than disabled. ɱ (talk) 23:26, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
