DRAM

The use of DRAM chips as an example (which I think is not referenced) is probably innarcurate/wrong/misleading - they lack the [loss of] differentiation across its supply base, ..] by the diffusion of the intellectual capital necessary to acquire or produce it efficiently.

DRAM technology is still not widely available to any producer. This is evidenced by the recent restrictions on computer technology affecting would be china DRAM manufacturers (ie see China–United States trade war), eg https://asia.nikkei.com/Economy/Trade-war/China-set-to-produce-first-locally-designed-DRAM-chip quote :"Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Co [was] forced out of business earlier this year when Washington barred its access to U.S. technology" - this is not expected for a commodity.

Note that part of the DRAM market is commoditized eg https://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1182463
