Merge[edit]

I think this article should be merged into the Red Flag–White Flag section of Communist Party of Burma. I think the to the articles easily could fit together, they feature repitive information, and the Red Flag party was really more of a rival faction than a fully separate party. Charles Essie (talk) 02:03, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree, the two parties were separate for decades, with fully separate leaderships and organizational structures. --Soman (talk) 15:48, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Communist Party (Burma)Red Flag Communist Party – Per Wikipedia:COMMONNAME. Charles Essie (talk) 22:08, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you're worried about ambiguity we could put a banner on top to distinguish it from the parties you mentioned. Charles Essie (talk) 01:42, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, commonname doesn't really apply here, as neither name is very commonly known today. --Soman (talk) 08:01, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • oppose. Clearly (that is, for clarity), we need to keep "Burma" somewhere in the title. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 20:56, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Communist Party (Burma)Red Flag Communist Party (Myanmar) – The last move discussion didn't work but I stand by my argument. So I'd like to offer this as a compromise. Oppose - your proposed article name is not the common name, and Wikipedia conventions dictate that we should follow the most common name. Academicoffee71 (talk) 03:26, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NB Sock account, see SPI in process. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:36, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Berean Hunter and GeneralizationsAreBad:, I see no block on either of the SPIs. What is the status of the above account? If it isn't a sock, I'll relist, otherwise, I'm fine closing this as not moved.TonyBallioni (talk) 03:21, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - the party, now defunct, was called 'Communist Party (Burma)' in English during its existence, including in official govt documents. '(Burma)' is not wiki disambiguation, but this was the way the party was called at the time. Some contemporary reference use 'Communist Party, Burma' as well. --Soman (talk) 19:12, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support or preferably Move to Red Flag Communist Party - the current name is clearly confusing, as it does not disambiguate this group from the Communist Party of Burma, failing WP:PRECISE. And where's the evidence that "Communist Party (Burma)" is the correct or common name in any sense? I'm not seeing that online. The sources I'm seeing refer to Thakin Soe's breakaway gruop as the "Red Flag" branch of the original party, and sometimes indeed the "Red Flag Communist Party".[1][2][3][4] And since the country article is at Myanmar, the disambiguator should be that too. I agree with the move as nominated here.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:06, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PS - I actually think this is Primary Topic for Red Flag Communist Party as well. It dominates the Google book results for that topic, and neither of the other entries there are actually called exactly that. Amending my !vote to include that preference.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:12, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. The country wasn't officially renamed Myanmar until 1989, so a party that went into decline in the 1970s certainly shouldn't have "Myanmar" in its article title. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:50, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support moving to Red Flag Communist Party. Seems to be the WP:COMMONNAME and it's apparently the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.--Cúchullain t/c 13:51, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - given that this party went defunct before the country was renamed "Myanmar", using "Myanmar" in the title is improper. Academicoffee71 (talk) 03:52, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
