The compatibility condition was derived in 1860, not in 1864

[edit]

Hello. In this article, the following is currently written~ “Compatibility conditions (...) were first derived for linear elasticity by Barré de Saint-Venant in 1864 and proved rigorously by Beltrami in 1886.[1]”

While in fact, Barré de Saint-Venant deduced the conditions of compatibility (the six differential relations for rectangular coordinates) on his reads before the Société Philomathique in July 28, 1860. It was then published in the “L’institut” Vol. 28 (1861), pp. 294–5. And the proof of these conditions was first given by Boussinesq who published it in the “Journal de Liouville” vol. 16 (1871), pages 132–4.
