The discussion of Calhoun's formulation of the Concurrent majority needn't be bound up with the particulars of his history. While the latter is interesting, Concurrent majority is a concept which stands on its own as a theoretically (Calhoun would argue practically) better way to ensure Government's correct representation of the Governed (better than a Numeric majority, at least).
