Untitled[edit]

Is the section toward the bottom on "Solving the conflict in the Niger Delta" really appropriate as is? Perhaps if it were included as a proposed solution with some information about who was proposing it and why. However, as of now it seems un-encyclopedic. 68.40.198.96 (talk) 02:36, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and have removed it. A section on 'possible solutions to the crisis' would be acceptable if it was made up of references to suggested solutions made by reliable sources, but this section wasn't - it was pure POV advocacy. Robofish (talk) 14:25, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cheese and crackers in a different essential bases, was thought of in Nigeria but never put together. This article said the conflict said 2004-ongoing which is not true as the amnesty ended it on 2009.I was surprised the amnesty is not there so i will create a section of Amnesty and give it credit of ending the said conflict and also changed the 2004-ongoing to 2004-2009.The truth be told —Preceding unsigned comment added by See wor (talkcontribs) 16:50, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger[edit]

I believe that the list of abductions in Nigeria is essentially part of the timeline of this conflict. So far the timeline looks pretty empty without the merger.Catlemur (talk) 20:39, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, where is the page this is to be merged with? Bokoharamwatch (talk) 12:02, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think he is talking about Foreign hostages in Nigeria. --IRISZOOM (talk) 16:49, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In the process of restructuring the page, a section Piracy and kidnapping was included with a link to Foreign hostages in Nigeria Wykx 09:22, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Historic context[edit]

The first descriptor of "...Niger Delta's minority ethnic groups who feel they are being exploited..." is very objectifying. There is concrete evidence to prove of genocide and not "who feel". The better structure could be "that have been" exploited for resources. Also, See: Environmental issues in the Niger Delta as this would be a better merge. VersoArts (talk) 20:59, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't think they should be merged. This article focuses on a (military?) conflict/insurgency, while that is an environmental article. It's important not to confuse the two. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 12:14, 1 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The amnesty program[edit]

The article claims the number of surrendered troops is "~15,000 militants surrender in 2016". But other than that, there is no proof, and this number is not mentioned elsewhere in the article. I have changed it to "as of 2016" for the time being. On the other hand, the Presidential amnesty program (2009-2016) section says "Over 30,000 purported members signed up between October 2009 and May 2011", so there is a contradiction (or omission of data). I also corrected tenses in a few cases in that section. It doesn't directly specify if the amnesty has already been discontinued, judging by the title, it has not, so I corrected appropriately.--Adûnâi (talk) 11:56, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

rm text from background section[edit]

"This has led to a section of the growing populace assisting in destroying the ecosystem that they require to sustain themselves"

It's not clear to me which section of the populace this seems to be reproving; could be either Nigerian employees of foreign companies or insurgents sabotaging mining operations. The tone of reproof is also a bit of a prblem too of course. Elinruby (talk) 07:49, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

questioned text in article[edit]

autonomous "from within" -- to describe smaller militias. Set in opposition to forming alliances, but still not sure what it mrans.

Also, above that in the same section is a reference to "violent convergence" of two larger groups. Did they fight each other? Join and fight others? Elinruby (talk) 00:39, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
