What an amazing artist. He definitely deserves more praise and attention in this day and age for what he did back then: Combining elements of disco/soul/funk with tribal-style African drumming to create this fusion genre called "Afro beat". Truly a pioneer and an innovator, having shaped a unique sound completely unheard of before its time. Quality and originality at its finest, and elite art for a broad spectrum of cultures to enjoy. Not only was Mr. Kuti a talented musician himself, but he put hard work into the efforts of his musical ensemble. The improvisational skills of his band when all playing together was something synchronistic and musically pleasing to the ears, without mistakes or error when recorded live. Fela left behind a legacy of musical discipline and greatness, which is something rare every musician should strive to do. He was also a great leader, directing his band of 30+ talented instrumentalists and dancers during their live performances. Although he was often jailed and prosecuted by his government, the people of Nigeria were fans of him and his music, and his legacy of unique musical greatness exceeding fame or fortune still lives on to this day.
