Etymology

Cyningesburh could not have become "Conisbrough"- it would have been "Kingsb(o)rough". The modern form of the name suggests it is from cognate Old Norse Konungsborg instead. It's quite possible that both names were in use c.1000CE hence the OE name being recorded (as happened with York: Eoforwic/Jorvik).Walshie79 (talk) 18:05, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
