Conservation geneticsGenetic conservation — The accurate name of the subject is "genetic conservation" to remain consistent with naming conventions for concise titles. — RW Marloe (talk) 12:47, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree to keep the name conservation genetics, if we change to genetic conservation, the focus is not on Genetics but on Conservation since the modifier specifies the area, like in conservation genetics, the use of genetic methods to guide conservation biology, while the other is differente, genetic conservation, is specifically the conservation of genetic whatever. The purpose is not just to preserve but to use all the information relevant for genetic theory- like inbreeding depression, genetic drift, natural selection and so forth, for conservation and management of species. Spanish article

[edit]

Hi. I created the link of the Spanish article (Genética de la conservación). I need wikipedians with special knowledges in this content to make it better. It doesn´t matter if they don´t know Spanish well, I will correct the orthography and/or the translation mistakes. --Biol. Cons. (talk) 01:30, 30 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Great. I am Ecuadorian and I can help with that. We should try to set up the content of both articles in order to avoid discrepancies between each other. Ra.fisher (talk) 23:00, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Critique of the article

[edit]

I revised this article following the Wikipedia guideline of quality. Then, my comments are: 1. In the lead section of the article there is no overview of it. According to the Wikipedia guidelines, a succint, clear summary of the article must be included in the lead section to guide what the article will discuss (a metadiscourse). 2. The writing style is neither persuasive not biased, but the organization is a little confusing and the content/coverage a unbalanced. Some sections - like methods and techniques are covered more than others. Also, the rationale of "conservation genetics" is not clearly discussed and no facts or statistics are provided. Many free articles, available online can provide some details to exemplify the importance of genetic diversity for the conservation of biodiversity. 3. Conservation is not a rare field so there are several sources available to make this article, robust, reliable, verifiable and objetive. Some sections lack sources, and some citations are like a,b,c,d Stanly... This citation does not explicitly state the title of the article, the publication date and other information relevant. 4. In some parts, it mixed "techniques" or "methods" with source of information, like using non-invasive sampling and historic DNA, the former is a technique and the latter a source. 5. Also there is no section about inference methods like phylogenetic approaches and population genetic inferences to estimate past population dynamics or spatial population structure. I will try to work on each of these details to make this article a reliable and objectivity source of information for the online public. Ra.fisher (talk) 23:15, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
