The Agricultural Lands Purchase Act[edit]

It seems a bit verbose to include the full name of the Agricultural Lands Purchase Act twice in consecutive sentences (albeit in separate paragraphs). But if we must, I've capitalised the 2nd Act, as now being part of a proper name. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:27, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now that we're talking about the Act anyway, here's a reference if someone wants to write the article. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:28, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category: 1898 Settlements[edit]

The article is categorised as the non-existent Category:1898 Settlements, and WP:CAT says we need to do something about this ("An article should never be left with a non-existent (redlinked) category on it. ..."). I was just going to create the category, but "1898 settlements" sounds to general - should it be "1898 settlements in Western Australia", "Western Australian settlements, 1898"? I had a quick browse in Category:Western Australia to see if I could find something similar, and couldn't. I did find Category:History of Western Australia and Category:Western Australian History, considered fixing that, then decided that I'd like to get to bed some time tonight, so I'd better stop looking at categories :-(

I've removed the non-existent Category:1898 Settlements from the article for now. I'm sure we probably want this and other similar categories, so we should perhaps think about what to call them, and then create them. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:52, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

there is already a structure for this, I just guessed at the time and havent gone back to either fix or create Gnangarra 13:59, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

land holdings - something screwy[edit]

two sources one says 7,000 acres was from the leake estate and 800 acres from another source., where as the second source attributes 7800 to the leake estate.... Avon location 1 was only 7,000 acres that was owned by leake estate avon location 15 wasnt. Gnangarra 17:27, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Avon Location 15 and Toodyay Road[edit]

This edit's comment is "dont know how this got included....".

It got included because this ref says (with my emphasis):

Another portion of Coondle the Govern-
ment bought from the same vendors, Loca-
tion No. 15 a block of 800 acres, adjoining
the old Newcastle townsite and has a

frontage on the Toodyay Road.

I'm not familiar with the geography, so I can't say whether the ref is correct or not. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:11, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

it has to be referring to something else because west Toodyay is at one end of stirling terrace and Toodyay road is at the other they have never met. I can only speculate that it refers to what is west Toodyay road[1] as it and the boundary are one in the same... this will be one to resolve on the 8th, its definately not Toodyay Road as we know it Gnangarra 13:33, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
just thinking it could be another throw back to before Newcastle was moved. Gnangarra 13:35, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
