Cooperativity of binding is not always due to increased affinities

This is an often made confusion. In the Hill framework, there is absolutely no increase of affinity with the concentration of ligand. The increased binding is proportional to the concentration, but with a fixed affinity. The Hill Plot provides a straight line. This is why one cannot derive the Hill equation from Mass Action Law. The Hill equation is a nice phenomenological fit, but it requires magic to work. Even in the Adair Law, K1,2,3,4 are only phenomenological constants. It is only with Klotz that different affinities are introduced. Furthermore, other mechanisms have been proposed to explained cooperativity, for instance changes of the number of binding sites (poly- or depolymerisation). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lenov (talkcontribs) 13:30, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's miss Adair's & Monod's equations

Actually, it misses far more than that, including:

  • the discovery of cooperative binding of oxygen by Christian Bohr
  • the (failed) tentative of explaining using mass-action by AV Hill, resulting in the famous Hill equation
  • the proposition by G Adair of increasing affinities with successive bindings
  • the successful derivation of Adair's law using mass-action law (what Hill tried during his master thesis)
  • short but precise introduction of MWC (concerted) and KNF (sequential) models

No, it does not cover the same topic. Cooperativity is not limited to binding. But the other article is terrible as well. Note to self: rewrite the cooperativity article :-( Nicolas Le Novere (talk) 13:23, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Cooperativity may not be limited to binding, but cooperative binding is a subcategory of cooperativity: a merger does seem merited to me.Mikalra (talk) 21:04, 11 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
