[edit]

Many articles source this material as authoritative, yet no third party sources link them together in a coherent fashion. While this family tree is highly useful, citations are needed. IlliniGradResearch (talk) 04:56, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

John Schwartzman's mother?

[edit]

John Schwartzman is obviously not Talia's child, unless she had him when she was 13.

14. Someone explain? 203.218.128.166 13:46, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Francis Ford Coppola

[edit]

Am I missing something, or is Francis Ford Coppola, or Sophia/Roman not on this family tree? I feel that they are slightly important. 132.239.1.230 (talk) 09:19, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I totally agree. someone who knows how to do that sort of thing needs to mark this page for cleaning up. or just someone who knows how should just fix the damn thing... 137.222.230.13 (talk) 16:43, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am surprised that Nicholas Cage (Nicholas Kim Coppola) is not listed on here either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.161.188.11 (talk) 00:06, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He's listed – look several down from the topmost name. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 03:55, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notability?

[edit]

Per WP:NOT, Wikipedia is not a genealogical project. Do we have any sources that discuss the family as a whole to establish the notability of this subject? That is, it is not sufficient for the individual people to be notable--instead, the family as a unit/group must be notable for them to have a separate entry. I'm tempted to propose deletion, but I see the article has been around for a long time, so I thought I'd ask if any of the regular editors had a comment. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:03, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe so--my opinion is that this directly violates WP:NOT. I don't think it would be appropriate to create a "family tree" for every instance in which more than one person in an extended family is notable. However, I'm going to take this article off my watchlist, since its not something I feel passionately enough about to argue about or actually take to a deletion discussion, so if someone else wants to remove the tag, go ahead. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:00, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, it is more than two prominent people who happen to be in the same family. But more important than the number is the centrality of family in Francis Ford Coppola's magnum opus, the Godfather saga and the fact that Coppola himself called it "a home movie" (SEE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPhFTsAnZMM), casting his own family members as people from the Corleone family. True, this bare family tree is not as useful as an article that wouldtake up these issues. It is also not helped by the confusing device of left-to-right rather than top-to-bottom structuring. But despite its weakn esses, Wikipedia would be impoverished by its deletion. --José G. Pérez — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgperez (talkcontribs) 08:48, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Content should be WP:PRESERVED in template form. See Category:Family templates. E.G. (Template:Family of Michelle Robinson Obama or Template:Kennedy family).--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 14:02, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There already is a template: Template:Coppola family. Given that, would you consider restoring the tag? Qwyrxian (talk) 02:07, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is not a family tree. It is essentially useless in terms of understanding generations and marriages.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 02:12, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, in that case, it looks like we actually disagree about what info is necessary. I don't believe it's our job to give a whole layout of generations and marriages, except in cases where those families have specifically been discussed as a family . Even if that information is available, I don't believe a family tree is the correct way to preserve that information in most cases (with royal families being a possible exception due to the fact that the line of ancestry is a large portion of what makes any given group of nobles, well, notable). It's simply not something that we do (as stated in WP:NOT), and attempting to do it will lead to crazy arguments about which person should be included or not included, how far back the trees should go, etc. I don't know if I'll actually go to the effort of AfD'ing this, but to me, this page needs to be sourced (to demonstrate notability) and rewritten to demonstrate notability. When I have time (if ever) I'll try and see if the notability can be met first before deciding if its worth taking more action. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:25, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that Nicolas Kim Coppola's third child is missing from the tree. Would somebody more experienced with this be willing to add her in? WikidKev (talk) 23:32, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
