What does this have to do with the whiskey rebellion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.237.94.31 (talk) 21:16, 17 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Original research[edit]

The first author of this page inserted what they claimed to be original research, namely a handwritten manuscript which contained information duplicated by multiple sources whose copyright is no more. Either the provenance of the letter is dubious, or this was done as part of commercial activity associated with claimed descendants of the Corbly family. The creation date of this article is exactly one day after the blog post announcing the commercial work by Don Corbly. I assume that this page was created to hawk this book, raising a serious question as to the notability of the event. If other people agree with this, there should be a discussion regarding deletion.

Regardless, it is original research which merely duplicates work in the public domain.

Personally, I don't see any reason to include the account here as the exact sequence of murder and scalping is not notable.

It seems to have taken a long time for anyone to follow up on the conflicting stories here, butin looking into Corbly's family history, he was 70 years old and had had 3 wives and at least 17 children. Elizabeth Tyler Corbly, killed on May 10, 1782, was his second wife, his first having died around the time of John Jr's birth. The three children who died that day were Elizabeth's: Isaiah, Nancy and Mary Catherine. Some of the retellings give 1791 or 1792 for the Indian attack, but their grave records show 1782. Whiskey Rebellion[edit]

This event, in 1782, has nothing to do with the WR in 1791-94. John Corbley was arrested as part of the WR, which is noted in the article about John Corbley Farm, but this article correctly doesn't mention that, because it isn't relevant to these events. I've removed all references to WR here, and plan to remove the reference to this article in the whiskey rebellion template. Generic1139 (talk) 19:38, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
