style / tone issues?

[edit]

Hello, I know I'm just butting in here but I read over the article and I feel like parts of this article go against the grain of some Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical music standards for article-writing. Please check out Wikipedia:WikiProject_Classical_music#Evaluative_passages to see what I'm thinking about. In places the tone feels very much like a fan appreciation of the pieces (don't get me wrong -- I completely agree with the descriptions). I love the open details around their composition, but perhaps we could drop the "program notes"-style description of Zadok, especially since it has its own article as well.

just my two cents Fred 03:36, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio

[edit]

The version of the article as of March 7, 2007 [1] is copied from http://aylesburychoral.org.uk/concerts/works/handel_coronationanthems.htm. the page provides permission to other societies to use the text in their programs, but there is no assertion that it has been released under the GFDL. -- Whpq 13:34, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that this point here. Shouldn't this be the other way around? I like having the composer's name in the title, especially if the title of the work is as generic as this one is. DavidRF (talk) 06:02, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why the move?

[edit]

I dislike the way Zadok the Priest was moved away from its own page to a sub-section of this page. When I get a chance, I intend splitting this article to restore what worked for a very long time. Annoying that a change of this scale was not discussed first.  HWV258.  03:46, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Separate articles for "Zadok the Priest"

[edit]

I don't well write in english, but I interested and write about "Zadok the Priest". I think that anthem "Zadok the Priest" should take place in separate article - because this anthem is great symbol Great Britain and it is the best work of Handel. In other Wikipedia's are separate articles for "Zadok the Priest", for example big articles in Polish Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.60.186.223 (talk) 18:28, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Support. I agree that the work should be on its own page. It previously was, and will be again (one day). It's on my to-do list (unless someone wants to beat me to it). GFHandel   22:11, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Focus and title of this article

[edit]

The current title of this article is "Coronation Anthems" (which despite the capital "A" suggests something generic), however it begins with the text "The Coronation Anthems" (which suggests a specific set of works). Also note that the article now includes mention of anthems by other composers. I would like to ask the community whether:

  1. The article should be moved to "Coronation anthem" (with no capital "A") and rewritten to encompass appropriate works by other composers?
  2. The article should be moved to "The Coronation Anthems" (or something like "Handel's coronation anthems", etc.) and focus only on the work of Handel? If this option happens, then another article should be created called "Coronation anthems" to encompass the work of other composers (including a brief mention of Handel's work of course).

The current article text is not consistent with the title, so a decision has to be made. I'm comfortable with either suggestion (and am happy to do the appropriate editing), but would like to hear from other editors. Cheers. GFHandel   21:25, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've been thinking about this and my vote is for #1 above:
  • Rename the article to "Coronation anthem".
  • Edit lede to make it less based on Handel's specific works, and more about anthems for coronations in general.
  • Rename the current "Anthems" section to "Handel's coronation anthems".
  • Merge the current "History" section into the newly named section.
  • Point current links to the article (based on Handel's works) to the newly named section.
The idea being that the article becomes more generic, but still offers a landing place for Handel's anthems (e.g. links from other articles to the renamed section). The strategy above could also be seen as a stepping stone to a solution where most of the Handel information gets stripped out into another article (e.g. "Handel's coronation anthems").
Unless there are any other suggestions, I'll go ahead and do the above (at least to see how it looks).

Done. Coronation Anthems (Handel) now redirects to the Coronation anthem#Handel's coronation anthems section on this page, and I've updated all other articles that used to point to "Coronation Anthems" to point to "Coronation Anthems (Handel)". This will make it very easy if/when editors feel the time is right to move most of the Handel information out of this page and into the main article "Coronation Anthems (Handel)". Why are there only British compositions in both the English and other language versions? Surely other monarchies have music for crowning? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.72.50.70 (talk) 20:41, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Translation to FR

[edit]

Good morning,
We can't succeed translating into french the following sentence which several of us seem not to be able to understand :
"It then enjoys long chains of suspensions on the phrase "thy salvation". The main trouble seems to come from the word "suspension" related to the idea of notion. Perhaps a lack of imagination ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
