Dubious photo of fighter aircraft

[edit]

I see, that photo I've removed on July 26 is returned now. I realise that photo is described as "CR.42s of 75a Squadriglia over England" in Commons - but there are certainly some problems with the photo:

  • A)Aircraft features:
  • B)18° Gruppo Caccia Terrestra, the only biplane fighter group of CAI, consisted of 83a, 85a and 95a Squadriglia. Aicraft on the photo are described as belonging to 75a Squadriglia, which corresponds with fuselage numbers of aircraft.
  • C)Aircraft on the picture are sporting prewar italian insignia on tail - italian tricolour - which was, with Italian declaration of war (or just prior to declaration) replaced by white cross.

I'm not convinced that this photo shows CAI aircraft over England. Regards --ja_62 (talk) 20:02, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, I think the confusion stems from the look of the lead aircraft in the formation: from the angle the picture was taken its cowling and oil cooler intake look a lot like the CR.42's cowling, with the little bulge on the bottom of the NACA cowling. You may remove the picture.Brutal Deluxe (talk) 20:55, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
